hi I’m not sure where to start .ok I have COPD (lung emphysema) I has a sudden heart attack in September.and I also have lots of other medical conditions. As you can imagine my son was suffers from anxiety He requested that he wanted to be with his brother who live in Kent with his fiancé and her family so his brother came to keep him calm.my disabled son his now asking to be with his brother more . I’ve been driving down to Kent every other weekend and we stay in a hotel for the weekend so he can spend more time with him.the driving is putting a strain on my health .my autistic son have now asked if we can move closer to his brother in Kent and we live in a housing association property near Heathrow Airport. I just don’t know where to start if anyone can give me any advice it would be much appreciated.

Hi @mum123 sorry you've not had a response to this yet. Bless you, you have a lot on your plate and that's quite a predicament with family being so far away. Especially with the strain travelling and staying in hotels is putting on you all, as well as the financial costs of doing this. Do you have any day to day support for you and your family where you are at the minute? Is moving closer to family something you're thinking about?

Have you tried getting in touch with your Housing association yet @mum123 ? They will probably be able to get the ball rolling for you with arranging a possible transfer for you so you can be nearer to your son

Please don't feel ashamed @mum123 you have absolutely no reason to be! You sound like an amazing Mum who is doing so much for your family, and doing a lot of this on your own whilst dealing with your own health issues.

It might be worth reaching out for a care needs assessment which is completed by the NHS to look at your needs, and the needs of your family, and potential support that might be available to you. I've added the link below:

Getting a care needs assessment - Social care and support guide - NHS

Please remember that you're doing a fantastic job. Remember to take care of you too 💛Please keep us updated with how things are going (if you're happy to).

    Best wishes,
