esa migration to uc identification

sorry if this has been answered previously …
my wife has been on esa for years and years and as the title says she's expecting her migration to UC letter anytime soon ….
trouble is, she has very little identification, no driving license, no passport - only an expired one ….
the majority of our bills are in my name with the exception of the council tax bill and joint bank account….
what will she need to do to migrate to UC ?
thanks in advance.

Hi,
Without a passport or any credit she won't be able to confirm ID online.
If she can get to the Job Centre with what little paperwork she has then that is probably the easiest way. They can accept a birth certificate, bank statement, and usually an expired passport as well. (Some JC's may be more lenient than others).
If it's not possible for her to get to the Job Centre then she can ask for a biographical phone call instead.
Also just for reference, if you live together, you will need to make a joint claim for Universal Credit. It's not possible to make a single claim when living with a partner.

hi, thank you for the reply ….
she would be able to make it to the job centre so that should be the easiest route to go down …..
we are a married couple living together and are already in receipt of universal credit (her ESA is deducted off the universal credit statement monthly), does this mean that it will be a straitword migration with already been in receipt of UC ?
sorry for sounding vague

Hi,
As you are already getting UC as a couple, there won't be another migration.
The ESA that your wife gets is Contributions Based (New Style ESA) and that is not part of UC. It will remain separate and continue to be deducted from your overall UC total each month.

Hi you can order her a provisional driving license as I.D. Had the same problem with my daughter needing some id with her address on. It came through within a week too. Just coz you have a provisional license it doesn’t mean you have to use it.
