2013 DWP Internal Review of the Work Capability Assessment p78

It is helpful to clarify two important terms used throughout the report.

Impairment is a significant, demonstrable, deviation or loss of body structure or function. The key feature is that impairment can be identified through objective evidence: ‘detectable ... by direct observation or by inference from observation’.

Disability is limitation of activities and restriction of participation in life situations, in people with physical and/or mental condition(s) or impairment(s).

An individual may use aids and adaptations to modify the impact of their disability. This then determines their capability (the ability to effectively perform the tasks of a job) in relation to work.

Dear Agnia, thank you for your kind words. I did actually have a productive today indoors after reading your message. I moved into second and third gear after being stuck in first gear for some time now..

I'm looking forward to Mental Health Awareness Week starting in about 20 minutes!

I won't be up late but we'll chat tomorrow I'm sure.

    🤗

Good evening Agnia, there's a message in my drafts for your other thread so I will post that soon. I have always valued our connection.

I'm surprised there's no interest in Mental Health Awareness Week yet. Not sure what it's all about if not discussion about mental health!

Needing glasses as a child was definitely an impairment when playing sports which I loved. Now I'm older, my short-sight feels like an asset.

Be kind to yourself. Have patience with yourself. It's taken me years to accept my shortcomings!

    💜

Holly had posted some discussions in the run up to Mental health week last week @WhatThe and has another planned towards the end of the week. But everyone is quite welcome to start their own discussions to discuss mental health week. I really love to see the community writing things. It really adds to a proper sense of connection. 😊
