Thank you for posting. It makes sense when you think how rushed it was and how desperate they are to get the cuts through so quickly

Hi jul, I watched silver fox earlier and he spoke of an interesting article about a special advisor of the government. According to him pip was only supposed to be frozen until their building plans were growing the economy. When they realised this wasn’t going to happen they decided to scrap pip . Not sure how true it is obviously but it’s not surprising.

    Hi, here it is.

Sir Keir Starmer is facing the biggest rebellion of his premiership over planned benefits cuts.

More than 100 Labour MPs have said they are not currently prepared to back his sweeping welfare reforms in a vote expected next month.

Rachel Reeves, the Chancellor, set out plans in the Spring Statement to bring down the benefits Bill by £4.3 billion.

The proposals – under which only the most disabled adults could claim Personal Independence Payments (PIP), and under-22s would become ineligible for Universal Credit – have drawn concern.

The rebellion is understood to extend into the Government, with a handful of parliamentary private secretaries (PPS), who hold the most junior ministerial rank, said to be wavering on the issue.

The revolt comes amid growing anger over Sir Keir and Ms Reeves’s decision last year to strip winter fuel payments from 10 million pensioners, a move which Labour figures blamed for the party’s local elections drubbing this month.

In a letter that will be sent to Alan Campbell, the Government’s Chief Whip, next week about 130 MPs have said Sir Keir must change course or risk defeat in the Commons.

One of the signatories, a backbencher, told The Telegraph: “There’s a lot of people who have children with quite profound disabilities and things like that. The under-22 thing has caused quite a lot of concern.

One of our colleagues has a child with a severe disability. Their condition isn’t going to get better from 18 to 22.”

They described the welfare cuts as “Treasury capture”, adding: “This letter is something that quite explicitly says this isn’t good enough and as things stand we’re not going to vote for it from as large a group of people as possible.

“They need to start listening. It’s as simple as that. No one’s paying any attention to the bigger picture and nobody will give us any credit if we’re mired in this kind of stuff.”

A second MP said: “Some of the people who signed that letter will have already been offered a slip for the day when the vote comes, so they don’t have to be here.

“People are worried the October Statement is going to have more pain in it. People thought winter fuel was all it was going to be, and then it’s not winter fuel, it’s X, Y and Z put on top of that.”

Thank you 🙏. How many do we need to stop it going through do you know ? I’ve read the Tory’s and independents are voting against and reform for cuts .

"The Government’s working majority in the Commons is 165, meaning that the estimated 130 rebels would dwarf the 83 MPs needed to force a parliamentary defeat."

This is an extract from the above article in the Torygraph.

So if true this would be good news for us ? Would we need the Tory’s to vote against ?

Oh wow , where did you hear this Catherine. Apparently 130 could be voting against. I read in the sun ( I know it’s not trustworthy) that Labour back benchers know they’ll lose their seat so they want to leave with a clear conscience .

I spoke to uc less than a month ago about transferring over as I hadn’t received my letter. I asked her if it’s true they’ll be reassessing everyone on lcwra as I heard they were on YouTube, I said I don’t know how you’d be able to . She replied they wouldn’t even have the staff for that and have no plans to reassess everyone and don’t watch YouTube as it’s wrong information. I don’t know if they’re doing some reassessments but that’s what I was told .
