Hello, I’m a newly diagnosed person with a hidden disability. It can affect me physically on the really bad days. I’m trying to get my head around the new way of living, not being able to work any more and am looking for like minded people and support.

Hi @jamesDS Welcome to the Community from me too. It can take some time to adjust to a new diagnosis and a different way of life. I find it is better to look forward at what you are able to do now and not what you were able to do before.

Just take things slowly and try and plan to do one thing a day and have some kind of routine.

    Please take care of yourself.

Hi James, my disability was invisible for around 5/6 years before I lost my leg and became a full time wheelchair user.

At first I thought it was something curable and had so much hope, but when the consultant told me it was permanent, I'm not ashamed to say that this big, gruff North-East man cried.

Then the consultant gave me the harshest advice (which at the time I didn't appreciate) which was "You're just going to have to learn to live with it".

Now, over a decade later I live by that advice. That advice has made me so strong mentally and I made sure to tell that consultant that those words were the reason I kept fighting.

To put it more gently, keep fighting and don't lose hope for your future. There's so much more out there. There's nothing wrong with not being strong all the time but never give up.

    Take care.
