Illegal Immigrants

What should be done about the ever increasing number of illegal immigrants crossing the channel from France ?
Should we welcome as many as want to cross and take up home in UK ?
Should we stop them all and return them all to Calais ?
What / How can this be done ?
In the last week, over 1500 arrived illegally in boats !

Try working with them like I do once a week (voluntarily through my church) and you may see them as human beings and develop some empathy.

Yes, but surely there must be a numerical limit to the numbers ?
I am all for diversity and welcome legal migrants

A middle-ground approach could involve strengthening border patrols to deter smugglers, creating safer and more accessible legal routes for asylum seekers, and cooperating with other countries to address the root causes of migration. Establishing processing centres in France could enable individuals to apply for asylum without risking their lives by crossing the English Channel, one of the most dangerous stretches of water in the world. It is deeply distressing to hear of lives lost in such circumstances, a tragic reminder of the urgency of finding humane and practical solutions.

Just wanting to jump in here before anything happens and ask everyone to please keep the discussion civil. I know this can be a very polarizing subject and tempers can flare.

@Wibbles Don't believe everything you see in the media. For a start, the process for citizenship is long and arduous. They don't arrive here and recieve a house and loads of money, the get put in an HMO (House of multiple occupation) and have to live off £30 a week.
An example being that some have fled due to their sexuality and have to live with others (in an HMO) who are more zealous. If their sexuality gets discovered they're in danger.
Of course there's always going to be people that abuse the system (same with any system) but the media has a LOT to answer for.
Now I'm not political at all, neither left, right or centre, I see people as humans whereas the media sees them as statistics.
What I'm saying is that the majority of these people, these human beings are not "illegal" and are genuinely fleeing from persecution.

I hope I've been civil, I've not intended anything but civility. I only speak because I have some firsthand experience on a human level.
I hold no hostility towards @Wibbles and I hope they realise that.

Lovely and civil @Wheeled_Weapon no worries there. 😁 I think it's very important for people with lived experience to speak on behalf of those who can't.

@Albus_Scope
You mean like the Government who don’t listen to us over impending benefits cuts?!2 -
@Wibbles
I think they should all be returned’ and you’d be amazed how many want the same!
Then we have the problem of being called racist!?Common sense dictates we can’t keep on letting hundreds of thousands of people coming here as we’re far too overcrowded as it is, we can’t look after our own people , to me charity starts at home!
Far too many so called ‘ good doers’ have made this country the mess it’s in today!
Years ago we didn’t have such a massive imigration problem nor a massive drug problem leading to knife carrying and so many being seriously injured and killed or murdered !!
Sadly, this country has long gone down the hill to be saved!

I expect the long term governments plan is to cut the benefits of people who can't or don't want to work then take on the poor immigrants for lower wages boosting the economy while bringing down government spending its a win win

win win for whom exactly?
I presume you mean the government not the disabled?So your against disabled people then?
Just wondering why you’d make statement like that?

Honestly your comment was perfectly clear, I understood it without issue.
This is a hateful thread, but at least it's shown someone's true colours.
