I don't mind if they means test it, but then they need to up the limit to include the other benefits, primarily they should means test it for those people who have other income.
My next door neighbour is retired, she gets a pension, owns her own house and is pretty well off, her partner works, plus she gets PIP which she uses for all sorts of extravagances and luxuries, like going away on holiday many times per year, or powering christmas decorations over christmas period 24/7, big christmas decorations outside lighting up the whole house, it galls me, I have to scrimp on everything, control my electricity and not had a holiday in 25 years (not that I would want to) but to the people who don't need it, it makes sense to means test it.2 -
There is always someone who spoils it for others! Thats why some of these cuts are happening, big Christmas decorations outside, then someone gets the FACE ON because THEY USE THEIR PIP FOR THINGS ITS SUPPOSED TO BE USED FOR, WHILE OTHERS WHO DONT REALLY NEED IT, TREATING IT AS THEIR " SPENDING MONEY! "

So working PIP recipients will lose PIP unless they are also entitled to UC. Ditto, somebody on a small penion will lose unless they are entitled to UC. We're not talking millionaires here. It anyone with more that £16K.
PIP is tiny compared to the costs of major disability. The proposed cuts are an ideological fiscal choice. If they "really" had to means-test PIP a better proposal would the "Child Allowance" style of taxing something back.

Awesome.

I understand where you are coming from, partially, I don't judge other people, "I love the saying, let he who is without sin cast the first stone", but, I disagree that wealthy people should be able to claim PIP the same as poor people.
It's not just Christmas decorations, or the fact that they have 3 new cars and just bought a new camper van or that they can afford to buy a steady stream of luxury goods and I don't want to stand in judgement on somebody who barely qualifies, is self diagnosed and has managed to claim PIP, but I think it is these people who ruin it for the rest of us.

What about the new means tested winter fuel allowance, what if they did something like that on your personal income not on your savings?

Society isn't divided into "wealthy" and "poor". How would you means-test PIP?
Income? How much?
Savings? How much?
Would you simply cut off PIP or have it reduced via the tax system like Child Benefit?

I was asking for an opinion RANALD, I can't see where I said I had savings. Sometimes I feel this group start to scare each other with everyone's opinions when nobody actually knows what is really happening. Sometimes this group has been very helpful but other times it's added to my worries by me reading everyone's opinion and what they think could happen. I'm going to leave this group for a while as I don't think it's helping me, I don't want to read things that cause me to become concerned and worried when it hasn't happened. Thank you to everyone that has given me helpful answers to my questions.

Mine too Zips, £3 odd over threshold for Pension Credit but my situation is complicated, nope, no mega savings either or private pensions. I just hope that if it does get means tested its not at a stupid amount like eleven grand a year 🙄

I wouldn't even like to guess about mine, I do have some 4 points but no way do I feel confident in any way about keeping them.

I agree in part, those who are fortunate to have that much money might not need extra financial support but I need mine. I missed out on Pension Credit by 3 measly pounds, no private pensions, no mega savings, just a complicated situation. I am going bite my tongue on this one or my finger. We shouldn't be splitting the community again by saving who deserves what and who doesn't, there is always going be many folks who fall through the cracks, we should be looking out for each other.

Exactly @mrsBB There is too much "debate" on this forum about who is most worthy to receive from the DWP pot. Society is not made up of millionaires and paupers. To suggest this is to help the DWP take money from people in need. Let's unite as we face the cruelest times.

I've got a few four points in daily living and about 12 in total.
I certainly don't feel safe though as my ongoing ten year award is due to end November 26.The exact month the new changes are about to happen??? This possibly means that I'll get a light touch letter around next summer? Nothing has changed so I'll just fill it out like that but hoping they won't decide to call me in. I've nothing to hide but worried an eager assessor will try to downgrade me and I'll have to fight in an appeal
I don't know whether I can postpone it all till the law changes and they don't bother the people with ongoing claims that have proven medical issues which won't improve

I'm not totally against means testing as long as the cap is a reasonable amount, because having a disability often costs more. I don't know what the average wage is these days but I'd say at least double of that for it to be reasonable.
