Kemi Badenoch: "The Government is in a mess, their MPs are in open rebellion. If Keir Starmer wants our support, he needs to meet three conditions that align with our core Conservative principles."The first condition is that the welfare budget is too high, it needs to come down. This bill does not do that."The second condition is that we need to get people back into work. Unemployment is rising, jobs are disappearing, and even the government’s own impact assessments say that the package in this bill will not get people back to work."The third is that we want to see no new tax rises in the autumn. We can’t have new tax rises to pay for the increases in welfare and other government spending."We are acting in the national interest to make the changes the country needs. And if Keir Starmer wants us to help him get this bill through, then he must commit to these three conditions at the dispatch box."

This is devastating. We literally have no way out now

Honestly, I would not worry too much about the SCC criteria just yet. With over 100 Labour MPs openly rebelling, the whole policy looks like it is about to implode. This is not just a political crisis. It is a total collapse, and it is happening less than a year into their time in office.
I am thoroughly enjoying watching a spanner get thrown into their plans. It is about time these reforms gave Starmer, Kendall and Reeves some headaches and sleepless nights. After all, they have caused nothing but stress, fear and uncertainty for the disabled community with their ill thought out attempts to balance the books on the backs of those least able to carry the burden.

I actually feel like I’m on a rollercoaster and feel constantly sick. However, ChatGPT seems to suggest that Starmer won’t agree to the demands as the cuts are sufficient to make the welfare system sustainable.

It's over

It's not looking good. Kemi wants more cuts to the welfare bill. I'm thinking now Starmer could go deeper with the welfare cuts to get her support. All we can do is to fight on.

He will. He has no choice

So the Tories basically say "make it more brutal and devastating for disabled people"
Horrible. They're all horrible.

It feels as if the sun ☀️ is starting to shine through the dark clouds that have been over us for months.

That statement from kemi wants labour to take the brutal decisions so the conservatives benefit ....
People have good memories and they'll be consigned to history with labour

I hope so 🤞 that’s looking like our only chance

It was until kemi decided to help Starmer

NEW: Kemi Badenoch says the Tories will lend support to the welfare bill if PM commits to three conditions: bringing down welfare budget, getting people back to work, and promising no new tax rises. The last of those is impossible for the government to deliver.
