Some Photos

I haven't taken my DSLR camera out in a while so may do so tomorrow, but I thought I'd share a few photos I took with it as people seem to enjoy them.
The last picture (of the moon) I edited post production to bring out the contrast. It was my first day (night) with a new lense and getting the settings right for such a bright object was tricky. I don't think it detracts from it.
The rest aren't edited, but I did ever so slightly crop the picture with the two tree silhouettes (before the moon photo) as it looks better that way.
Hope you enjoyed 😄

Pure art. Something about contrasts and the transitoriness of existence 👨🎨

#Wheeled Weapon,
Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful photographs, you have a wonderful talent and eye for detail. Is that a Cathedral in the background or just a Church? Just curious. Beautiful sunrise / sunsets too. The moon is spectacular with the contrast.

That is Durham Cathedral. In my (completely unbiased) opinion the most beautiful Cathedral in England.
Here's a drone photograph I took of it earlier this year.

#Wheeled Weapon,
Thank you for a swift reply. Of course you're entitled to be biased, you live in a beautiful part of the country with a beautiful Cathedral! I was just curious, I like architecture, but do not know anything about it at all. I just marvel at the workmanship, skill and effort it took to build it! Do you know approximately how old the building is?
There are a few around but I don't get to visit them. On the rare occasion that I've been near a Cathedral to visit, it has usually been closed for repairs or once whilst visiting in York quite a few years back, the was a new Bishop being inaugurated, so it was closed for that occasion. I did go to see some of Exeter (I think), it is amazing but still undergoing restoration. They were raising funds buy building a replica from Lego bricks! Very impressive too. The idea being you sponsered laying a Lego brick to contribute to the funds for restoration Nice idea!
Have a good day with your camera.

Construction of Durham Cathedral was finished in 1133 so it's almost 900 years old.
It truly is stunning, and photos don't do it justice.
This is the Sanctuary Ring (Commonly misnamed as the Sanctuary Knocker). This one is a replica as the real on is on display in the treasury inside the cathedral.
"The right of claiming ‘sanctuary’ or protection in a religious building dates back to ancient times. Fugitives would usually be protected from the law for 40 days, before having to either face trial or go into exile for the rest of their lives, unless they were granted a royal pardon. At Durham, the protection only lasted 37 days – a time limit apparently set by Saint Cuthbert himself when he appeared in a vision to the Viking king Guthred. The right of sanctuary was abolished in England in 1624."
"When a fugitive claimed sanctuary at Durham, they would be given a black gown with a yellow cross on the shoulder, marking them out as under the protection of the Church and Saint Cuthbert. They were housed in a small room below the South West tower of the Cathedral, and given food and drink. After 37 days, the fugitive had to decide whether to face trial, or go into exile."
"Most fugitives at Durham claimed sanctuary either after committing murder or theft. If they chose exile, the person had to confess their crime and swear to leave the country, never to return. The Royal Coroner, a legal official, would decide which port they had to leave from, and they were given a set amount of time to reach there and leave, travelling on foot. Most fugitives were sent to the port of Hartlepool, about 20 miles away. However, there is a record of one fugitive who was sent to Dover, 350 miles away. They would have had to travel about 30 miles per day, on foot, to reach it in time!"
We have a Lego model in the Cathedral too. This was also a fundraising initiative. Apparently it weighs around 750kg 😮

Fab pics but how on earth can your dog fit that huuuuge tongue back in her/his mouth?! lol

Some excellent pics there @Grumpy1314 of course I'm specifically loving the band and dog photos. Do I spy Rick Parfitt's guitar there?

Thank You Albus,
Your 100% Correct you do spy the late great Rick Parfitt’s Guitar. Quo was my first gig in 1991 and also in 2009. I was up against the stage with Rick in front of me all night, I still have his guitar pic in my wallet.

🤣🤣 I think my old Whipstaff had to have an automatic retractor system similar to a tape measure. Everyone says the same thing about his tongue 👅
Ozzy was a big daft 30kg Whippet x Staffy that me and my ex rescued in 2018 off Facebook. In the five years I lived with him, he never barked once, always loved the postman and the vet, was soft as muck and fair to say he always knew when I was having a hard time. I miss the old boy loads, he will now be ten years old and probably feeling his age. Sadly for him he lives with my ex.
