I have a disabled man who has one leg visit my local pub. He has a mobility scooter. There is a disabled toilet located in the womens toilet .The gentleman cannot get out of his mobility scooter without support. The pub gives consent for him to use the ladies toilet but he cannot get out of the scooter unaided and he comes in on his own. He asked for a cup and left it on the floor full of urine for staff to deal with. This seems unacceptable to me. What is the legal situation on this?Should he have a carer with him?Should he have a bottle of some sort?Should this be a concern for the place he is visiting or the individuals problem.Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi @Zanne69 I'm sorry you've not had a response to this yet. It's a very difficult situation and sometimes when it's a stranger, all you can do is provide your best immediate support to them. Is this a regular at your local? I wonder if maybe reaching out to understand if they have some support in place, and if not maybe suggesting they get a health assessment which might result in them receiving support, depending on their circumstances.

Hi @Zanne69 In most places that have a disabled loo the loo is in a separate compartment and is neither in the male or female loo so anyone can use them. In one of my local pubs a disabled man cannot use the male loo (there is no disabled loo) and he uses the ladies that is on the ground floor and no-one objects. I use a disabled loo in a very large loo in an entertainment complex that is a female and kiddie loo, but no-one objects to the fact I am male, everyone is friendly and doors get opened for me. You say your friend left a cup of urine on the floor? This is not nice for anyone concerned, let alone you friend who must have felt a bit down. Why doesn't he take a plastic male urinal with him? He can pee into it, empty it into the loo and flush, and then put it in his backpack/rucksack or whatever they are called these days. He must be capable of doing this otherwise he wouldn't have managed to pee in a cup.

He managed with just a cup? I used to hate it on my bus when realisation hit, that the bottle I was holding, it wasn't going to meet my needs!

@Ranald There is nothing worse than the vessel you are holding is going to overflow!
