Hi, my name is luu855! Is sen right for my child?

hello i have a 7 year old in mainstream school. Has has been diagnosed woth ASD and has a active echp. The school has told me they feel he needs specialist schooling as smaller classes and more attention and facilities will help him learn better. His school osnt large as its a little village school in norfolk. I am worried specialist schooling will be overwhelming for him. Some of the children are far more disabled than him, bless them! I am not sure is SEN is the way? I want to fight for mainstream but i dont want him to stay in his current school now as i feel they have given up on him.
he has resat year one already and will have to do it again next year! After that the school has said they cannot facilitate his needs although they would try. They are worried he just with cope with the work load from tear 2 upwards…. What do i do? Ive looked at 3 specialist schooling i dont like them!

Hi @luu855 and a warm welcome to the community!
It sounds like you're in a tough situation. Finding a school that you believe your son will be happy and comfortable in as well as being able to meet his needs can be very stressful!Have you looked at other mainstream schools in your area? Support in mainstream school for autistic children can definitely vary and some mainstream schools can be great so it may be worth asking the SEND and inclusion team for a list of options nearby.
Specialist schools can also vary, are there any other specialist schools you haven’t visited yet? There is some good information on types of provisions available here
It may also be worth contacting SENDIASS Norfolk too as they are the local education specialist in your area so hopefully they will have specific insight and knowledge over what sort of support different schools can provide and how they may meet your sons needs.
Hope this was helpful, please reach back out if you would like more support or have further questions😄0
