Appointee and Journal

Hi does anyone know how often somone who is an apopointee be expected to check somone journal. The two adults I am appointee for have not migrated yet but I am concerned that they will have to be checked every day. I look after 2 autistic adults, work part time and don't often have time to go through emails every day.

That's unfortunately like asking "how long is a piece of string?" but I'd suggest logging in every other day if you're able to? It'll very much depend on the individual though. So you may not have any messages for weeks, but it's best to make sure you dont miss anything.

Hi thanks for the reply, They are both in the support group on ESA income related, so I am aware that they should migrate over to LCWRA group. I assume they will have no commitments and wasn't sure if this made any difference. I just don't want this taking over my life as there care needs already consume most of my life both physically and mentally. Sorry to sound ungrateful.

You should get an email and/or text when a journal message appears.
As it happens, I've had one myself this week, needing action within 3 days! After several months without any messages at all.

Thanks, can you request to be contacted by both email and text. Our daughters migration letter has just come this morning so had a bit of a meltdown/panic. My biggest concern is that Hubby and I are going away for our first time on our own in September, we have care in place for both the kids and I am panicked that I won't have signal or the ability to access emails when we are away. I am the first to admit I am terrible for looking for obstacles or what if's.

No problem, I've just replied to your other thread as well.
I can't remember whether there was an option for both types of notification or not. I rarely use a mobile phone so only have email notifications myself.
If you're going abroad then be very careful opening the journal. The DWP can see which country you open the journal from and have been known to suspend claims if the journal is opened outside of the UK.

Hi, I will obviously let DWP know that Hubby and myself are going away, neither of our kids who I am appointee for will be going with us. I also thought this applied to an appointee for claimant commitments.
1 UC Regs, reg 16 (1)(a)Appointee in placeJ1022 If the claimant has an appointee in place this would usually indicate that the claimant lacks thecapacity to accept a claimant commitment. The decision to waive the requirement to accept a ClaimantCommitment must be considered on a case-by-case basis by the work coach but in most cases wherethe claimant has an appointee, the requirement will be waived.J1023 Some claimants with an appointee in place may wish to do voluntary work-related activity (seefurther guidance in ADM Chapter J3) but the requirement to accept a claimant commitment would bewaived. An appointee is not required to accept a claimant commitment on the claimant’s behalf andshould not be asked to do so. However, the claimant, appointee and work coach can agree voluntarywork-related activities together.Example 1Fiona has severe learning disabilities. She has made a claim to UC with an appointee completing theclaim on Fiona’s behalf. After a discussion with the appointee, Fiona’s work coach at the Jobcentredecides that Fiona is not required to accept a claimant commitment because her learning disabilitiesmean that Fiona cannot understand the expectations or requirements in connection with a claim to UC.The requirement to accept a claimant commitment is waived.

Thank you, I wasn't aware of that. As it says, it's done on a case by case basis for claimants with an appointee. But does look like they'll never ask an appointee to accept the commitments.
Regarding the holiday, it doesn't matter who goes, the electronic system flags it up if the journal is opened from abroad. That's what causes the problems.
