Reporting a rent increase (private tenant)

Hello everyone and good evening.

I have, today, received a Section 13 notice of an increase in my rent from my letting agents. The new rent takes effect from the 21st of September.

Am I correct in thinking that I report this change through my journal on the day it happens on the 21st of September? And would it matter if I reported it the following day, the 22nd? My assessment period is the 11th - 10th of the month.

Also, I am in receipt of transitional protection in my monthly payments, would this be affected in any way?

For context, I already receive the maximum LHA rate on the housing element, so my entitlement would not increase. Am I right to believe that my transitional protection wouldn't change? Surely, it would only go down if my entitlement went up?

Thank you for taking the time to read this, any information would be invaluable to me.

Would be interesting to see what responses you get. Ours went up in April and we notified UC. However they are still paying the previous amount. We have finally got them to accept the new amount and asked about the backpay two weeks ago. Today they finally responded that would look at paying it however wanted to know why we hadn't informed them of the increase!
I am also unsure on how TP works so clarification would be good.
Hope you get some helpful answers (Unlike mine)

You report the change once it's happened, or as soon as possible afterwards.

As you are already on maximum LHA your TP won't change.

Thank you, so much for replying, Kimi. It really helps to have the clarification I was hoping for.

I am a shocking overthinker at times and I really appreciate your reply.

    Thanks, again. πŸ’

    Hi,

You will be asked to provide the date of the change in the journal, so you can do it the day after, or even several days after, as long as it is still within the same assessment period.

I've recently had to do mine. Despite already being at maximum LHA, they still needed 'further information to decide' on not paying me any more money… πŸ™„

    Hi, thank you for that.

I did believe this to be the case, so it's nice to have the clarification.

I'll have the relevant information, ie, the Section 13 etc ready to upload even though they won't be paying me any more money either... 😏

That isn't all of the relevant information for UC. You'll have to upload a utility bill or similar as well. πŸ™„

Yes, thanks. I'm aware of that 😊 I'll have everything I need ready. Thank you so much for the heads up though... πŸ’
