    @Grumpy1314

Sounds like a diverse mix 😊

That's interesting about military.. is that something from your past or just an interest? Of course goes without saying please don't answer if not comfortable. I always would have liked some kind of military career if I'd never had health issues, I kind of liked the sound of the community and the culture

I’ve had a keen interest in Military History for quite a few years, I lost three Great Uncles in the First World War, my late Grandfather served in The Royal Corps of The Signals from 37-45 got injured in northern India and had to be put on a medical ship back to Britain, only to get tb in his one remaining lung so spent the war in a hospital in South Africa. My Grandma served in The Women’s Royal Air Force as a Cook at RAF Jurby on the Isle of Man, I believe my late Great Uncle served in the Arctic Convoys in the Merchant Navy, My Mum also had two Uncles serve in the Military in WW2, one of whom is believed to have been one of the first into Bergen Belsen, My Dad was a one eyed clerk in the REME and my late Uncle was in the REME and Royal Military Police.

I’ve been to RAF Cosford museum a few times, I used to go to the Science and Space Museum in Manchester a lot as a kid and a few times as an adult.

I took my mates in 2019 to RAF Bruntigthorpe to watch old Cold War era Jets do fast taxi runs down the old Runway, English Electric Lightnings, Buccaneers, Comet, Nimrod etc.

I also lived a stones throw from the old Avro Factory in Chadderton where they built Lancasters, Vulcans and many more famous planes which were then transported to Woodford for final build and test flights both there and at RAF Ringway - which is now Manchester Airport.

You couldn't beat the earth trembling power, and thundering roar of an Avro Vulcan. Thankfully they were never needed!

They were used on the famous Black Buck bombing Raids in 1982, where on each mission two Vulcan B2 Bombers flew 6,600 miles to bomb the Runway in Port Stanley in the Falklands. One Vulcan on each mission acted as reserve. They were supported by Handley Page Victor Fuel Tankers. Two of the mighty V-Force. One Vulcan went technical and ended up landing in Brazil, they released one bomb and couldn’t jettison another after their fuel probe broke in the return flight, they had to quickly jettison all top secret documents. The Vulcan and Crew were detained a week before being returned to the RAF.

Avro Vulcan’s flew on the famous Black Buck Raid in 1982 during the Falklands War, supported by Handley Page Victor Tankers they flew 6,600 miles a record for a bombing mission that still stands today.

They were powered by Rolls Royce Olympus Engines, that distinct howl being a trademark of a Vulcan.

A known fact is that Concorde used a different variant of the Olympus engine but with Afterburners!

There was also the marine variant used in HMS Invincible, Ark Royal and HMS Illustrious

You seem to know your stuff, and i wasn't very clear. I meant their main purpose of carrying a nuclear payload, and dropping it on the Russians!

    Good morning everyone

@Grumpy1314 thanks for sharing that family history, very interesting to read 😊

I've never known much about military service in my family because those who were still alive when I was born were too young to serve in WW2. I do have a relative who grew up in a very middle class family - learnt how to drink tea from a teapot and always wore a hat outside etc. When he was called up it was a shock to his system seeing men eating their breakfast wearing a vest at the table and swearing, and he said after the inevitable first few weeks of being ribbed for being the posh boy he absolutely loved it

    Good morning.

We had a bit of rain here and now the sun has made an appearance.

I have to go for a full body bone density scan today to see if I have osteoporosis and I am meeting friends later.

I hope you all manage to have a good day.

at yes, very true. 617 Squadron had Vulcan Bombers when based at Scampton.

There is a Vickers Valiant at RAF Cosford, another of the V-Force. It is the last complete airframe of its kind, it is also the only one of the V-Force to actually drop a nuclear bomb and no other RAF Jet has done that since that day.

617 Squadron were based out of Scampton with Vulcan Bombers many years ago.

The last of the V-Force, the Vickers Valiant has only one known complete airframe in existence now. It is based at RAF Cosford in the Cold War section of the museum alongside the Vulcan and Victor. The only place you can see all three V Bombers together.

The Valiant that is in the museum is the only British Aircraft to have ever dropped a nuclear bomb, no other before or since has done it. ☢️

Morning all, it’s old Victor Meldrew here 😂

quite start to the day, didn’t sleep very well last night, only had around four hours of kip. I’m such an eejit for a routine and trap I’ve got myself into. I’ve gotten into a routine of every benefit day, I have an alarm set for just after 2am so as to pay bills and shopping. Not a good thing with mental health, it’s a cycle I’ve got to get out of.

I’m on the phone to the DSS’s PIP Section, been on hold for 40 minutes 😤

I was going to ring Domestic and General, Sky TV, Sky Protect and Sky Home Insurance so as to get the final companies off my list for name change.

I think it shows the mental attitude I have with something like a change of name, I sat down and wrote out my banks, DWP Benefits, Utlities etc and each time my name was changed a green tick went against the side of it on the note pad on iPhone.

I’ve also done a similar thing with my benefits - broken them down into three lists :-

    ESA

    Universal Credit

    PIP & ESA

I’ve then written down all payments be it by card or direct debits on those particular days. I’ve also got them logged on my calendar quite far into the future to. I think it’s good practice to have with both mental health and also brain fog due to long Covid.

Sounds very productive @Grumpy1314 ! Have you looked into any apps to help with bills and such? I also get terrible brain fog and always forget bill dates, so I always try to get them paid at the start of the month, but I'm also using an app called "Snoop" now (not officially endorsed by Scope, personal opinion, etc etc) and I've found it really useful with bills. I've not been caught out by any in months now. Plus it caught a direct debit I thought I'd cancelled last year.
