Hey @cathie
Sorry to hear you're going through a tough time at the moment. It sounds like you might be facing two sets of issues - one around benefits and one around the social care & support you need.
If you'd like, we can arrange for our information specialists in those areas to have a chat with you about what's been happening, and provide some advice?
If you'd like to explore this, rather than disclosing potentially sensitive information on this public forum, you could perhaps email the helpline team, mentioning your online community post, and we'll arrange a time to chat further.

Take care,

Hi @Cathie
I'm not 100% sure what benefit we're talking about here - I'm presuming it's ESA, but if it's Universal Credit then please let us know!
I'm assuming that you have been assessed in the past, and placed in the Work Related Activity Group, but as you say, the individual work programme you were previously on dealt with you by letting you go home each time? Whereas the new one does not? (please correct me if I have the wrong end of the stick).
If my assumption above is correct, then unfortunately as long as you are in the WRAG then it is at the discretion of the Work Program whether to excuse you. There are two options - firstly you could try challenging the decision to place you on the Work Program, as this is not suitable work related activity for you in your circumstances - the DWP are supposed to consider what work related activity is suitable not just send everyone on work programs - however this is quite a difficult challenge to make. Perhaps more straightforward is option 2, which is to request a reassessment to the Support Group. This would be done by calling ESA on the number on your letters from them, and asking them to move you, or writing a letter asking this (attaching any relevant evidence you may have).
If the decision to place you in the WRAG was in the last year, you could also try following the appeals process, starting with a Mandatory Reconsideration. If you are not sure of the decision date, call the DWP, they should be able to tell you. All you need is the date.
Hope this helps! Let us know if you need anything more.
Kind regards,
Mary

cathie,
If you can get advice locally, I think this would be a good idea. Some people never have an assessment for ESA, they get assessed based on the forms you submit, although it's unusual for this to happen with someone in the work-related activity group.
Anyway it sounds as if they now accept that you shouldn't be doing the work programme. It might be worth checking though whether you are already in the support group for ESA, and if not, as Mary advises, asking to go into the support group now, giving any evidence you have about your condition(s).
You could also complain about what happened as it does sound as if something went wrong and, even if you are someone who can do some work-related activity, this particularly activity wasn't suitable for you.
It sounds as if you also have a PIP issue here, and I'm not sure exactly what has happened with that benefit. But from what you say, you could consider a complaint about how the assessor or DWP (not sure which) have behaved.
There might be a specialist disability advice service where you are living now, and I'd recommend finding out because they might be able to help you to get everything sorted?
