I thought you might like an extract from a post from "-albus's" sister.

One of his legacies is the fact I have a pigeon called Rumi living in my bedroom. I have no idea whether anything is actually wrong with her but -albus- found her huddled by our back door and was insistent we bring her inside. She's been here about ten days now and just seems to love being inside and getting nuts and seeds on demand. On Friday, shortly after -albus- died, I left all the windows open so his soul could leave. Rumi stayed firmly attached to the big pot he'd given her.

Then again yesterday I left the window open to see if she would want to leave. Instead I ended up with a second pigeon in my bedroom, which -albus- would not only have found f****** hilarious, he'd have been actively encouraging.

I've always had a thing for pigeons, especially three types:

1. The pigeon like most of you have posted here, most spectacularly seen in the pic by @Doglover2. I love them mostly for their brilliant luminescent rainbow around their neck.

2. I also love the pigeon known as the white dove. In case you don't know, doves are part of the pigeon family. I love it for its symbol of peace. It's beautiful in its depiction in art.

3. I also love the mourning dove that is found in Canada. It looks just like the European collared dove, but without the collar and a little smaller. The European dove only started appearing in Canada about 20 years ago. The mourning dove is known as the turtle dove by Native Canadians, and they are a symbol of peace in their tradition.

When I moved from Canada to Spain 11 years ago, I rescued a collared dove from a second-hand store. She has a broken beak. In Spanish, dove and pigeon have the same word - Paloma. Did you know that in Latin Albus means white? So I'm going to do as @Rachel_Scope has done, to name my dove after Albus. I will name her Paloma. In my mind even though her name is Paloma because she's named after Albus, she is a peace dove. So her last name is Blanca (which means white in Spanish). That is how I have come to know Albus through reading through his tributes on the forum. He was a peace dove. Here is Paloma Blanca:

In 1976 in many parts of the world, including Canada, the song Paloma Blanca was a huge hit. I was 13 and the song just rocked my little world. Here is that song for you, in tribute to a great hero, Albus, our White Dove.
