2 child cap to be scrapped?
I think most people who know me know my view already but I'm interested in everyone else's?? What are your thoughts on the proposal to scrap the 2 child cap on benefits??

It’s mixed for me
I don’t see why disability should - at least financially - stop people having the amount of children they want to. However plenty of working people can’t afford more than 2 children; lots can’t even afford one. I can see resentment stemming from that
Maybe one idea would be to scrap it for disabled claimants but leave it in place for those who are fit to work … but the big alarm bell there is the assessment itself often isn’t fair
I think the cap already exempts things outside of your control, like twins (or more), non-consent or medical reasons… maybe the criteria for exemption could be expanded, rather than a blanket scrap which would encourage abuse of the benefit
Maybe worth thinking about – I wonder if this an overlooked element: playing a limit-free benefit is brought up a lot, which assumes both parents are cooperating … I wonder how often disagreement or financial motivation of one parent causes controlling behaviour and spawns abusive relationships… or indeed neglect of children??

Why should a child be penalised for being brought into the world?

I agree that no child should suffer because of their parents actions. But the parents aren't obliged to spend benefits on the child…
I wonder whether vouchers for food, clothes and energy would work better here. Those are things that have more chance of directly affecting the child than money does.

Why does the third child have to be voucher guy? All this business is simply pandering to that French bloke.

Just wait till you need a license to have a child.

Where did you hear about a child licence, rubin. Do you have a link?

Misuse is a concern, but vouchers are not the solution. They stigmatise families and entrench division. Parents are not feckless, that’s a myth. Supporting children now is investment in the country’s future prosperity, because those children will grow to contribute and pay taxes.

Its not something that is being put in place yet, more so the way this country is heading. Some countries already have this though so it could very much be a thing in future.

They definitely should Biblioklept. The cap was brought in by Osborne in 2017, with his speech on "scroungers" who [paraphrasing] don't get up in the morning while the deserving do, as a way to punish anyone claiming benefits, intrinsically to save money by persuading them into work.
But: 1. Many people claiming UC are already in work, UC is used to top-up their wages. Another big group (us) are disabled and unable to work.
2. It's not the kids' fault if they're born into a family where someone is claiming benefits. If the cap was scrapped it would lift 350,000 out of poverty + improve the lives of 700,000, according to the child poverty action group.
3. It would help improve the economy. How? You give tax cuts to the rich, a large proportion gets ferreted away into savings + tax havens. But you give the equivalent to the poor, they tend to spend every penny they can get. Which BTW is a good reason for giving everyone a standard basic income, whatever their circumstances. And that's besides the moral imperative.
4. It would save money in future health care. Especially kids, but anyone in poverty, finds it very difficult to eat a healthy diet on a poverty income. More money coming in is likely to improve longer-term health.
You'll always have a few real "scroungers" out to milk whatever system you have in place, but I don't think this should be given prominance over all the potential benefits.

Yes the imaginary country of North Korea, whereby you are required to have 2 children in order to be officials, and whereby depending who your father is determines your "Songbun" where you can work, go school and live.
Theres been mention of having licenses for children for years, China did nearly had one.
But my main point being the way the world is heading could very much be a possibility.

People need to chill a little 😅 I understood what you meant @rubin16!
Oooh, the misuse of benefits angle I find interesting and it's definitely an angle that gets pushed a lot!! Some parents do misuse money, but I think the majority are just trying to get by and are doing their best.
@FeistyPigeon, you summed up my thoughts perfectly!!

Resources have never been an issue, the only reason why governments and elites say the world is overpopulated is due to the monatary system and the distribution of wealth. If we as humans actually shared things and wern't greedy there is more than enough resources on the earth that no one should ever need anything or be hungry. The biggest and most selfish thing is money and humans downfall and barrier.

Sorry for upsetting you my lordship, I didnt realise you copywrited it. but i've been saying it for months even before this thread. Also the term greed I think everyone can understand or do we now need a philosophers degree to have a simple conversation on here.
Please do by all means criticise what I say, I actually find it laughable how much your trying to hurt and attack members on here. If anything all your doing is alienating yourself from the community. I got to say though that stick stuck up inside you has got to hurt.

Behind the "funny usernames and digital profiles " though are people with feelings and some vulnerable.
No matter our intentions you are indeed dealing with physical individuals, it's just you aren't visually able to see them.
regarding the thread topic , the way I see it is as someone without a child I am not really of an opinion to lift or keep in itself, I do however hope it's lifting does not mean the disabled pay as just like a child doesn't choose to be born a disabled person doesn't choose their disabilities either, and one should not lose so the other can gain, the government need to look at the top of the tree for once not keep hammering the bottom and tilting the misery between the left and right of the vulnerable roots, whilst the untouched branches at the top keep growing miles too high.

"Trust me, most of my interaction on this forum is to try to help people with their enquiries, rather than engaging in discussions or arguments."
Well the way you have been interacting lately with members would suggest otherwise, you've already made some members leave by the way you have "interacted" with them.
"we're simply interacting with digital profiles or funny usernames and not physical individuals."
Sorry didn't realise you were sentient and not human, but you're "interacting" with real biological people with feelings, just because your typing through a device doesn't mean the recipient can't feel and has feelings.
"Your problem is that you like to discredit other people and claim that they're lying or spreading misinformation without any evidence to corroborate your claim, yet you all of a sudden feel attacked when your own misinformation is addressed!"
I think personally the issue you have is you didn't like the home truths I said about you, when I said you are doing nothing more than helping/feeding GB news viewers and interactions when constantly posting about how bad they were and you was feeding that misinformation. ever since then you have been following me around the forum like an hurt animal waiting for any moment to strike with your lessons in philosophy.
