One of my brothers passed his driving test, first time, aged 17 in the early 80s. He'd been saving from his apprentice wage and bought a, possibly seventh-hand, Allegro. The family joke was to ask him how many gallons per mile it was using! 😂

I've just done a bit of research on it. They're dropping 'premium' cars - just meaning they cost more. Not that they're actually luxurious!

They appear to have dropped whole brands rather than individual models.

Interestingly they've left Cupra - which is Seat's sports division. Can still order a 270bhp Cupra Formentor! (Although the AP is £7,995)

Golf GTE is still available too. Same 270bhp auto hybrid setup as the Formentor.

Can also get full EV Ford Mustang or Capri with electrical equivalent of around 280bhp.

Regarding the AP, it's possible that some people have it because of PIP backpay. If they'd been waiting a year or more for PIP results it does add up. I wasn't awarded Enhanced Mobility myself (sore point, best not get started on that haha) but did get enough backpay to finance a new car for 3 years. As it happened, it was too little, too late. If I'd had access to Motability a year earlier, I might still be driving now.

The Volvo EX30 Twin Motor does 0-60 in 3.6 seconds and is still available on Motability with a downpayment of £5599.

so tell me this please someone. Is it cheaper to lease a Motability vehicle. What are the advantages

Yes, it's much cheaper than leasing the same vehicle through other avenues.

Motability buy massive amounts of new cars so they get a better discount from manufacturers than other leasing companies.

And as above, the driver doesn't have to pay for anything other than fuel for the entire duration of the lease. Insurance, breakdown and servicing is all included. (As is road tax - but Enhanced Mobility PIP makes that free on private cars as well).

When I failed to secure Enhanced Mobility myself, I had to look into finance and leasing privately. I couldn't get the car I needed for anywhere near the same monthly cost as on the Motability scheme.

Also - as a disabled user - we pay 0% vat on the item or labour (for servicing)

That's interesting, I didn't realise that applied to vehicle servicing. I ended up returning my private lease car at 2 years old because it was due it's first service. I couldn't drive it at all by that point and the dealership wouldn't come to collect it so I ended up part exchanging it for an older used car, using the equity left in it plus a bit more savings. I haven't been able to drive this one either, but at least I'm not stuck in a finance scheme needing dealership servicing now.

maybe I must look into this. It is not about the vehicle but the adaptations that I could do with. Not sure if I can get them for free on a non Motability vehicle

Sorry - but this won't be available

You can't get adaptions on your own vehicle for free on Motability

That's the main reason that they can do them comparatively cheaply - they don't pay VAT and thus don't charge VAT

I have recently paid £1,500 for a brake accelerator adaptation on my own vehicle. Not sure how much it will cost me for it to be removed at a later date.
