You hit the nail on the head - 'future'. We simply don't know what may or may not transpire.
I'll be damned before i let some politician live rent free in my head.

Soon find out in the Summer what Milburn plans are, doesn't look good,
Alan Milburn has argued that some long-term sick individuals who are capable of working should be required to look for jobs to reduce the UK's welfare costs and boost economic growth. These comments, made in his capacity as a health adviser to the Labour government, have generated significant political and public debate. Milburn's Core ProposalMilburn's position is based on a report that he helped present alongside Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall. Key points include:
- A "Two-Way Street": Milburn stressed that while the state should provide more personalised, integrated health and employment support, those on benefits who are economically inactive should have a "duty to engage" with these improved services.
- Economic Growth: Milburn argued that getting people back into the workforce is "the only route to higher levels of economic growth" and a way to deal with the "toxic issue" of immigration by weaning the economy off imported labour.

The welfare bill has been spiralling out of control for some time now and all the projections indicate at some point in the not too distant future it will become untenable so i guess something has to be done. If i was calling the shots i'd start by reducing the Overseas Aid Budget because much of that budget is now tied to securing contracts for British businesses. 2nd thing i'd do is re join the EU. 3rd thing i'd do would be to go after big businesses with their myriad of tax avoidance and or evasion scheme's. 4th thing would be to quit sending billions of quid to Ukraine. Yes Ukraine desperately needs continuing help however why should the old frail and sick folks here foot the bill.

I personally can't see this spending out of control thing when we have the third lowest spend in the EU, but that's my personal opinion only.
in my personal opinion also Although there probably is a few who take the urine Since the pandemic, I truly don't think it's widespread, the DWP themselves have previously released information showing fraud in pip is virtually non existent.
regarding Milburn he's always spouting poison, the quotes earlier in the thread are from a February review, he's now on a different one for the poor youngsters.
If any of the things we've heard are coming they have to mostly go through full primary legislation and unlike the summer can't be rammed through fast without scrutiny, this government has a majority, but they also have a few decent Backbenchers who won't throw us under the bus and keep quiet, they've said they won't be bribed either, if anything passes next year you can be sure it'll be a hollowed out weak version.
for now (I know it's hard) It's probably best not to let it upset you as most of it might not happen, we don't know if or what they'll get away with but I'm confident it's not much considering Starmer and Reeves are so disliked universally the whole cabinet night change before anything gets to royal accent.
The one thing that IS a fact though is you deserve to live your life without fear or threat and should do so until a time comes something is actual law.
Another comforting thought which may help you stay calmer is even when something does happen it takes a very long time to roll out usually. some (including me) are still on DLA after 12/13 years of PIP existing, UC has been around almost as long and it's only completing now.

Sounds like they want to bring back forced labour or the chain gang !
Maybe treadmills, generating electricity to ensure that the disabled pay their way in the world.

Saying such things devalues any argument you may have.

Mr Happy, oversea budget bill being cut to spend on weapons, and Starmer tried cutting PIP and the long term sick that led to a rebellion needing 4 points to stay on it, their was a big outcry over it, already hard enough for disabled people to pay bills and appliances, next thing going to do cut Mobility car allowances to save money

The numbers on benefits is unprecedented currently, increased by millions in the matter of a few years. The reforms are needed due to the colossal cost. We all know the money needs to go to the NHS, mental health support, community help for disabilities etc etc which is non existent!!
I don't compare EU countries, the majority don't spend what we spend on defence... For instance - New state of the art nuclear attack submarines being built, new class of nuclear deterrent missile carrying submarines being designed and built, new class of Frigates being built and that is just the Royal Navy. We have two "Super" Aircraft Carriers, huge and majestic, which are filled with the world's best aeroplanes.... You could fit a Destroyer (ship) in one of the aeroplanes hangars..... only a few countries have *Super" Aircraft Carriers too.... Our money goes elsewhere!

The sick is a first priority in a civilized country mate

I agree, but you have to be able to defend yourself with the growing tensions currently in this world! Some really nasty people about.

yeah, money for filthy wars and violence that'd be right.

Reported. I only try to give reasons for the reforms, which are obviously imminent, mainly in reply to you that is all. I have not said anything wrong! I help claimants with their PIP worries on this forum most of the time. You just quote inaccurate information which does not help, trying to convince members the reforms are not needed and trying to justify the colossal benefit spending. I'm no troll, I'm a moderator on another forum, I am just saying how it actually is.
If I am blocked why have had to have your say...... 🤔

You know the world is getting a dangerous place, have you seen what has happened in this world when you could not defend yourself.....

Don't get me wrong, Although I detest wars and violence I'm not denying defence is needed.
I'm just get angry it's always taken from the areas like welfare instead as always the millionaire hoarders.

Fair comment, not knocking you.

Yeah, but the rich should carry that burden not sick and disabled people, the vulnerable should be protected not hit with a big stick

Labour are going to try to push welfare reforms next Summer it seems to me, it will target 18-25 year olds or 18-34 year olds with and I quote "mild mental health conditions".
They're going to take pages from Ian Duncan Smith's think tank and invest in more other kinds of therapies or "accesses to work" or "workwell" then if the individual's condition worsens then they'll have access to incapacity benefits.
That's my opinion, not fact, if done properly it is a positive then bare in mind the equalities act 2010. Though in order to do what they plan it will involve massive investment.
Labour will be cautious as the 18-25 or 18-34 year old cohort historically vote Labour, alienating them isn't a good idea but I do agree that support, hope and aspiration can help.
I will be controversial and say that the Covid lockdowns really had a negative impact on the youth, the isolation hurt them badly, the loss of loved ones, the fear, it took a massive toll on them and instead of abandonment they need support. I feel sorry for them.
