UC OVERPAYMENT OF ESA EVERY MONTH
For the last 4 months, my husband's contributions based ESA, which is paid fortnightly, has not been removed for the UC calculations and every month I have to wait for the amended statement in order to be able to repay the £600 or so.
Each month, my local council is then triggered into amending our council tax and sending a large bill, which is then nixed when the amended UC statement is issued.
I have tried everything to stop this overpayment yet each month it happens.
Has anyone managed to find a fix for this? We can't be the only ones.
Nothing has changed, nothing we're doing is causing this. Our claim began last June, when it became "mandatory".
I use the UC journal to prevent it, which never works, then to ask them to amend the UC statement, and why it matters; the one time I called UC I got a telling off in the journal for calling even though the journal had been used.
Anyone?!??????
Hope you're all managing…..and thank you.

First I would talk to ESA, see if it is problem their end.

If the problem seems to be UC, try making a formal complaint to UC

You could try contacting your MP. I would also advise you to make a formal complaint to UC.

I nipped into my local JC+ and a member of staff has flagged it as urgent for our case worker so hopefully it'll get sorted permanently. Thanks for the help chaps😁

That sounds like good progress @TheCatSays, hope they sort it out for you soon!

I would talk to the DWP, I know from painful experience how incompetent they are though, especially if they're making you pay back overpayments when it's probably their fault you were overpaid in the first place.

Great news @TheCatSays, I'm glad it was finally sorted. Do you have any advice for anyone else that might be in this situation?

Yes, none of the DWP staff could figure out why they weren't removing the ESA from the UC; turns out to be my care component. No clue why, as it hadn't been suddenly added, but that was what I was told.
