applying for pip without much medical evidence
hi everyone. i currently get uc with standard rate, LCWRA and housing element and i suffer from severe depression and anxiety, i was referred for adult autism and adhd on december 2024 and im still awaiting for an assessment and i may also have undiagnosed ptsd and agoraphobia however im really struggling because i was discharged for not attending a CMHT trauma workshop in-person face to face, when i bloody told these idiots i cant leave my house without feeling extreme distress and panic attacks about to happen and that i would like a psychiatrist or a mental health specialist to diagnose me with whatever conditions i have and ive been sent around in circles between CHMT and the GP about who does diagnoses. that was nice to know. also ive been prescribed medications by GP which have done nothing and i haven’t been to the doctors since, as i feel like they don’t wanna help me and i suffer from passive suicidal thoughts every now and then and as a teenager, i have attempted unsuccessfully many times and have self harmed. i’m 25 now and have been clean for several years
ive been told by others to apply for pip when i told them about my mental health issues. but im worried about my lack of medical evidence especially from specialists who for some reason i cant ask for without some stupid workshops that are worthless to me. can i still apply? i’ve been told it’s scary and rigorous process and that tribunals usually favour the applicants if things go wrong. i’d appreciate any advice and recommendations as i’m thinking of applying. feel free to ask me any questions if you need more info.

Hi,
You definitely can get PIP without any medical evidence. However, it is more difficult, you'll have to write very clear and understandable descriptions about what happens when you attempt the PIP tasks. You should also include any letters or emails from CMHT showing that you couldn't attend their workshops and got discharged because of your physical limitations. Be prepared to score 0 points at the first assessment, and then at the MR.
My situation is similar to yours, and I got PIP eventually, although I did have to go all the way to tribunal the first time. (I didn't physically go there, it was done on paper in my absence).

Mine were both paper based so not really scary.
The MR was just another rejection letter. Not nice to read, but didn't involve any direct communication with anyone.
The tribunal was meant to be done over the telephone, but they called me about an hour before and said they'd already decided it on paper without needing to speak to me on the phone.
I was quite lucky with that. But unfortunately I had to do a face to face assessment first time, and that had a major impact on my physical health. I did put on the form that I wouldn't be able to manage face to face without consequences, but they ignored that and forced me to one anyway. Then when I got there, they said the assessor hadn't turned up and I'd have to come back 2 hours later, or book another appointment and wait even more weeks. I chose to go back 2 hours later, but regret doing that now, due to the impact it had, and the fact that I didn't score any points from that one anyway.

oh god i’m so sorry to hear that. i don’t know how people can ignore the needs of others and just do what they want, that is extremely cruel and they deserve the worst for that. i hope they don’t force me to do a face to face since i can’t even leave the house without any incidents. i’m glad it’s all over and sorted now for you tho
