I've never heard of this store. Maybe we didn't have one in Wales.

Hey Freesia123, I only found out today to my surprise that the store only existed in the North West of England and there were only 6 stores. I had always thought it was some massive chain and there were stores all over the UK.
There used to be one in Oldham in the 1980's when I lived there, I would love going in there as a kid, drooling over all the video games, Lego, He-Man figures, Transformers, etc, it had this big American feel to it.

@Ross1975 Maybe a bit like Toys R Us then? UK stores (I know it's American)
You are probably around my sons age, as he was all Transformers, He-Man, The A-Team, Star Wars etc

I still have a coal man.. (or should I say solid fuel man), he brings it in sacks and tips it into the bunker. I wish I had the old coal shed, it would hold more!

Wow, I've not seen anyone have coal/solid fuel delivered for many many years. Do you have an open fire or maybe a Parkray?

( that looks very sore )
The Traditional Order of Bathing😬The Father (Men First):The head of the household, as the highest status, bathed first in the clean, hot water.Sons/Other Men:Following the father, other males in the household would bathe next.Women:The mother and daughters would bathe after the men.Children/Infants:Youngest children and infants bathed last in the same water, which was often so dirty by that point they were barely visible, leading to the cautionary saying"don't throw the baby out with the bathwater"

Eww! 😯 If the Father worked down the mines, the water would have been black from the start!

That was AI generated 17th/18th century poor households

I have a multi fuel stove so I could also burn wood, but coke is cheaper. Best thing I've bought, my house is never cold in winter.

Reminds me of my mum & what she & her sister had to do when they 7 & 8, the eldest two, the family was so poor, they had to walk just over 4 miles with an old barrow/cart, to collect coal dust, as my grandparents often couldn't afford coal.

The term "Spin Dog" came from this cruel event…….

Sounds lovely. So coke is cheaper than gas?

I buy a quarter ton and that lasts me about 4 months, maybe longer if its not too cold. It's just short of £150, and that price has stayed constant for a few years now.
It's more about the heat the fire throws out, when it gets too hot I open the living room door and the heat travels upstairs. It doesn't heat upstairs but it takes the chill off. It's a bit of a faff to clean it out but you soon get use to it and it only takes me 5 minutes.

You can say that twice!
