EHCP year 10 annual review
hello
My 14 year old daughters annual EHCP review is this week & im so worried, since year 9 they’ve cut her support without putting it on paper when I challenged them they first said we have limited TAs/LSA’s, then they said they are getting daughter to be more independent,
this is the wording in her EHCP
• “Additional in-class support for core subjects”
• “Teaching/support staff to support for all lessons”
Now their wording is extremely clever! & doesn’t state 1:1, in years 7,8 & half of year 9 she had 1-1 almost every day & lesson but then they changed it, they now say the main class teacher is carrying out the support. My daughter doesn’t feel supported and says she forgets what the teacher has asked her to do as soon as they walk away then gets told off for not doing the work.
I don’t know where I stand or what to do. Do I ask for a EP assessment as she’s not had one since 2022 or will this make LA discontinue her EHCP altogether ?
If anyone knows what I can do please help.
thank you in advance.

I am so sorry @dannistar I hope your review goes well. You could always tell school if you do not get the answers you want that you will be referring to IPSEA and see what they say.
Take care.

Hi @dannistar
You can ask for an assessment from an educational psychologist as part of the review especially if your daughters needs has changed and if the current EHCP isn't relevant anymore.
It's really unlikely that requesting an assessment would stop the current EHCP as the purpose is to better understand her needs and ensure appropriate support.
It sounds like the current wording on EHCP is a bit vague and Section F of the EHCP should be very specific and detailed.. You can share your concerns over this and ask for more specified support and adjustments and how your daughter is feeling in the review. Here is some more information on EHCP reviews that I hope will be helpful.
It may also be worth contacting your local SENDIASS as these are the education experts who can give you free and impartial information and advice on everything to do with education such as EHCPs, reviews, call and attend meetings with the school and sometimes allocate you a specific caseworker😊
I really hope the meeting goes okay Wednesday, please reach back out if you would like any other information or support1 -
Thank you.

I just looked up the sendiass, we do not have any in our area at the moment. Something tells me I am on my own 😞

There is also SOS!SEN Helpline which is a free helpline, it looks like they are open today and tomorrow so hopefully you will be able to speak to somebody before the review.
I'm sorry you feel alone, do you have anybody to speak to about how you're feeling about the meeting @dannistar?1 -
Thank you.
I have my husband but he’s in the same boat as me. I need someone who knows what they are talking about regarding this.
SOS!Sen I have tried to register so I can call , you need an ID number first before you can pre book a call.0
