I think it's a huge disadvantage for new members not to have this facility. One could argue it's discrimination, if one had an opinion...

As far as I remember, it blocks (and possibly flags) email addresses typed in PM's. Ebay messages and PM's on some other forums do the same. Of course, there may be loopholes to get around it.
Several years ago, I moved area and was hoping to meet people around the same age with similar issues in the local area for peer support, hoping we could help each other out as and when needed. Was told by various health services and charities that would not be allowed for our safety. I'm convinced that ended up causing more damage to my health when the risk of meeting someone who posed a threat was very small nationally.

Sometimes it can be alarming to see a friend stop posting online, but usually the explanation is much more ordinary - phone issues, Internet has gone out, or just a busy life perhaps.

@Ross1975 That is not the case here.

Ah okay, I might be missing some context as I haven't read through the whole thread, has something specific happened?

Yes but it is not for me to say what. You will not find the answer in this thread.
I just think it is best not to trivalize something without knowing the full story.

Trivialising anything wasn't my intention at all, I was just speaking generally. I didn’t realise there was more to it.
