Any advice about missed tribunal phonecall?

Hi I got an unexpected call on my phone. I thought it was about a new double glazed door that we are trying to get a quote about and I wasn't up to speaking to anyone, so I ignored it. Then I realised that it was actually from DWP PIP.

I have made an appeal and was given a date for the DWP to make a response before going to tribunal, but that was a few days ago, so I assumed that they would just go through the tribunal process. I have read so many different things about this kind of call. I feel paralysed by the pressure of going through another mini assessment or to negotiate terms with DWP, especially because I get so stressed and confused. Should I call them back to find out what the call was about, can I even get through to the right person on that number? I'm currently waiting for a scheduled call from my GP so I can't do it immediately. I'm so worn down by this process.

Hi @wonkydaze, sorry you're having to go through the tribunal process, it must be really stressful. I know it might be hard with how you're feeling, but I'd definitely suggest giving them a call back to see what they wanted, even if just to help put you at ease in the long term.

I called the number and it was a pre recorded message saying that they were in touch earlier but I was not available and that I don't need to get in touch they will call again if they need to speak to me. I feel like I've really messed up now.

Ah, ok. I'm sure that won't be the case. They might just want to ask a few questions. 😊Hopefully they'll be in touch over the next day or so, and you can put it to the back of your mind for a little bit.

I want to follow up about the phonecall. Yesterday morning the landline phone rang and my partner answered because he didn't recognise the number. He handed the phone to me and the lady explained that she was from the DWP and I would need to answer some security questions before she could explain what the call was about.

She then explained that she was the person who looked at the application form and she had awarded enhanced on care and mobility and my award date would stay the same, 2031. She then explained that there was money backdated to the date of the review, and asked if I was ok with the money being payed in to my normal account. A day later I'm still in shock. I stayed in bed all day yesterday because I was totally knocked out. I still have questions about how the award is different after a tribunal decision rather than a straight forward application. I'll wait for the letter explaining some of it.

I don't have a support network irl so this forum has been a lifeline for me, thank you!

I am still very angry that I have had to be put through this level of stress. I had my award cut when I moved from DLA to PIP and I was too scared to appeal, so we've had years of limiting the times we used the car and being scared to use the heating. Now we can think about fixing all the essentials we need to do for the damp remediation in our house.

Can anyone explain how the backdated money now affects UC is there a time of disregard?

    Hi,

You have 12 months and there after if it's below £6,000 you will be ok, but if above £6,000 you have to pay I think it's £4.35 for every £250 up until £16,000 then they will take you off uc.

Try to keep receipts they may ask what you have spent money on. Hope this helps.

They won't ring you back till at least Tuesday as it's Bank Holiday on Monday.
