What is Acceptable
What is Acceptable to the mods and what is acceptable to the individal ? Being rude and calling people names because you do not agree with thier views is NOT acceptable to me hiding behind a computer screen insulting someone is not ok and yes no way in the real world would i ever let this happen to me ive worked hard on myself for years to control myself and treat people with the same respect they show me i would never name call or belittle someone for a different opion its impossible on here to not respond to such disrespect dont close the post deal with the real issues i took a break because of the toxicity first day back issues Not because of me ???? Because someone can freely post insults seems a pattern here and the wrong people are left feeling deflated sort this out good people leave all the time and im sure this is the reason why house rules seem not to apply at all times thiers a few peope on here id say at least 4 who make it known im not thier cup of tea and thier not mine but i have to stick up for myself as it keeps happening and post shut always always when i react or confront isssues look at all my posts ive never started it sort this out not on not acceptable theres a wide group of people on here with many disabilites words have meaning and can destroy people who are already suffering

Good morning @Catherine21
Per our house rules, name-calling and disrespectful language are not acceptable here, and all reports about this are taken seriously and reviewed by the moderation team.
The recent thread was paused outside of our operating hours after multiple reports of escalating arguments. This wasn’t directed at any one individual, but was done to prevent further distress and allow the team to review the conversation fairly, which will be done this morning.
We recognise it can be frustrating when a discussion is closed before you’ve had a chance to respond, but this step is sometimes necessary to keep the space safe and supportive for everyone.
As the incident took place outside of our operating hours, the discussion was paused overnight, with a note left to explain it was paused temporarily to allow us to review.
If you have specific concerns about particular posts or interactions, please do continue to report them or contact the team directly so we can review them fully.
We appreciate everyone’s help in keeping the community respectful and supportive for all members.

Hi @Catherine21
Unfortunately the behaviour you notice isn't unique to any one place, or even just the internet. An inclined person will always find a way to say what they want to; working within the rules technically, but not following the spirit of those rules
What I would say is although you'll find this everywhere it tends to feel more abundant than it actually is, because our brains are attuned to attribute more weight to experiences that negatively affected us (prehistorically, it's how we survived)
When you're in a calmer state of mind, try asking yourself what you hope to achieve when you engage with people who are hostile? Compare that with what the actual outcome tends to be when you previously have tried it
Bearing this in mind, and sticking to what you can control – i.e. your exposure and your response if/when exposed – is the healthiest and most effective strategy. The "need" to protect yourself or make others understand how you feel is real, and the first few times you resist that urge is extremely hard, but over time it gets easier
When you inevitably meet individuals who are unreceptive to constructive discussion, that's their problem, not yours. You don't have a duty to explain or justify yourself to everyone (or anyone) and you can pick and choose who to invest your time but also emotional energy into
