Confused about Uc increase
I'm on uc lcwra and confused why my uc has gone up from 225 a fortnight to £426 a fortnight on May 5.
My Tp has gone down to £210.
My housing is £572.48 monthly
So I thought it wasn't going up .

@Andi66 This might solve your issue.
anyone was on a Legacey benefit before moving to UC.
How your Universal Credit entitlement affects your transitional protection paymentsIf your Universal Credit entitlement increases, your transitional protection payment will decrease by the same amount. Childcare costs are the only exception.
Further increases to your Universal Credit amount can eventually end your transitional protection payments. This will only happen if your entitlement is the same or more on Universal Credit.
Your transitional protection payments can decrease following a change in your circumstances. Changes can include:
- having a child
- starting to care for a child or disabled person
- an increase in housing costs (rent)
- a worsening health condition
- changes to government benefit rates
This is because these changes are likely to increase your Universal Credit amount.

Hi @Andi66, this might explain why you've had an increase
What changed from 6 April 2026
The LCWRA extra amount is now paid at 2 rates instead of one: a higher rate and a lower rate.
The rate you get depends on:
- when you declared your health condition or disability
- whether you have a severe, lifelong health condition or disability
- if you are nearing the end of your life
When you will get the higher LCWRA amount
You will get the higher amount if any of the following apply:
- you told us about your health condition or a disability before 6 April 2026, regardless of the date of the LCWRA decision
- you were already getting LCWRA before 6 April 2026
- you had the ‘support group’ component of income-related Employment and Support Allowance before 6 April 2026 and continue to get it until you claim Universal Credit
So if you declared your disability before 6 April 2026 and your disability is unlikely to change, you will get the higher rate.

Im on lcwra and migrated from income support
I was receiving £400 on transitional protection payment
I became homeless 4 months ago due to landlord selling the property after 17 years my new landlord charges me an extra £300 pm
I had to take the property to prevent my 3 children and I from being homeless as Nottingham city council deemed because we didn't wait for the baliffs to evict us I made myself voluntary homeless so therefore not entitled to accomodation even though I'm disabled with lung disease and osteoarthritis in my spine
When the government increased payments this was taken from the tp
As is the housing benefit increase
I am now near enough £400 pm worse of because of this
I called DWP and they said any increases whether Hb or increase in benefits are automatically taken from the to
£400 pm is a lot to be losing
