Confused about Uc increase

I'm on uc lcwra and confused why my uc has gone up from 225 a fortnight to £426 a fortnight on May 5.

My Tp has gone down to £210.

My housing is £572.48 monthly

So I thought it wasn't going up .

    How your Universal Credit entitlement affects your transitional protection payments

    If your Universal Credit entitlement increases, your transitional protection payment will decrease by the same amount. Childcare costs are the only exception.

    Further increases to your Universal Credit amount can eventually end your transitional protection payments. This will only happen if your entitlement is the same or more on Universal Credit.

    Your transitional protection payments can decrease following a change in your circumstances. Changes can include:

    • having a child
    • starting to care for a child or disabled person
    • an increase in housing costs (rent)
    • a worsening health condition
    • changes to government benefit rates

    This is because these changes are likely to increase your Universal Credit amount.

    What changed from 6 April 2026

    The LCWRA extra amount is now paid at 2 rates instead of one: a higher rate and a lower rate.

    The rate you get depends on:

    • when you declared your health condition or disability
    • whether you have a severe, lifelong health condition or disability
    • if you are nearing the end of your life

    When you will get the higher LCWRA amount

    You will get the higher amount if any of the following apply: 

    • you told us about your health condition or a disability before 6 April 2026, regardless of the date of the LCWRA decision
    • you were already getting LCWRA before 6 April 2026
    • you had the ‘support group’ component of income-related Employment and Support Allowance before 6 April 2026 and continue to get it until you claim Universal Credit

    So if you declared your disability before 6 April 2026 and your disability is unlikely to change, you will get the higher rate.

    I rang uc today which was useless all she did was read my statement s and said someone will get in touch to explain on my journal
