Not sure about UC standard increase and transitional protection
I am on LCWRA, migrated from ESA support group.
Since the April rates have gone up - my rent increased and my transitional protection decreased by the same amount. I understand that this is right. That's a separate thing to this post.
But what I'm confused about is the standard UC rates. I thought my standard rate would go up and my transitional protection go down. But my standard rate is still at £400.14 a month and hasn't had the increase to £424.90. My overall monthly benefit is still the same, as my tp hasn't lowered.
Is everyone's standard rate going up and tp being lowered to level this? I'm not sure why mine is still the same as before April increases. I realise that my money is still the same - but I thought it was going up in one place and down in another.
Thank you.

Hi,
The rates changes will show on your next statement. It hasn't been a full Assessment Period since the date of the rates change yet.

Also just noticed - my LCWRA is still at the same rate as before April increases (£423.27) instead of the new rates of £429.80. I know that some may say it doesn't matter because the overall monthly allowance is still the same (as they haven't upped it or taken from my tp). But I would rather it be right - and then have my tp decrease as the other elements increase. Otherwise, when my tp eventually erodes completely - I will be on less than the normal standard and lcwra rates - if this makes sense.
I'm wondering if it will change next month. As my assessment period is from 1st April to 30th April - so started before the 6th when it all increased.

Ah thank you. I did wonder if that was the case - so the standard rate and LCWRA rate will go up and my transitional protection will go down the same amount? It's just that they had already changed my rent increase this month (and dropped the tp to show this) so I thought they would do it all together.

I get my uc twice a month, got mine at £426, both dates. I have written in my journal on April 30th, no reply from them. My first payment goes in on the 5th this month. Can anyone explain this please. My rent which went up is correct, Tp gone down. I'm also on new style esa so don't know what the rate is now. Had no information

Yes, that's exactly right.
The rent change is separate and has nothing to do with the rates change. It's just coincidence that they are close together. 🙂

Thank you. That has really helped me stop spiralling. I will wait and see if it is different, on next month's statement.

No. The UC rates changes will be done automatically. 🙂

Hi Andi,
As your situation is more complicated, it's difficult to say exactly how much UC you'll get.
Your payment on 5th of May will still use the old UC rates. But might use the new ESA rates for the ESA deduction - if they've got the system fixed by then.
The new ESA deduction should be around £632 a month. So your payment should drop by around £23 a month for that.
Then your TP should drop by another £30 when the UC rates go up next month.
Your new ESA payment should now be around £291.80 every 2 weeks.
But I cannot calculate exactly how much UC you will get without knowing exactly which UC elements you get and how much TP you have etc.
If you would like to start a new thread and add a picture of your UC statement (without any personal details) then I can roughly calculate the rates change tomorrow if that would be any comfort to you.
