Constant overwhelm and anxiety
How do you cope with constant overwhelm and anxiety because I’m really struggling with it. Past few weeks it’s been quite bad and waiting for more support from mental health team.
I’m also AuDHD so I struggle with emotions, overwhelm and anxiety a lot.
Is there anything that helps you? I feel like anxiety is like consuming my life.

That sounds really difficult @QuietOak. We'll be popping you an email today so please look out for that.
Do you find that you're able to identify some of the things that are making you feel overwhelmed or are contributing to your anxiety? For example, sensory issues or certain events in your life. Or do you feel it's more of a general sense of overwhelm?
It's good that you're getting some support from the mental health team soon. Hope you're not waiting too long to hear from them ☺️

don't rely on the mental health team to do anything useful. do you have community around you (in person or virtually) who can help take some tasks off your plate? or spend time with you to help distract you?

Hi @QuietOak. I agree with @Rosie_Scope and @Stellar, to find what are the triggers or causes of feeling overwhelmed and anxious. I have those problems too and even though they may be pathological they are still real. What I mean is if you work through the reasons, you can help treat these feelings. We all get overwhelmed and anxious for different reasons. What are yours?

Hello QuietOak and welcome to the forum 😊
What helps me is going for a walk or bike ride. I always feel better after getting myself washed, dressed and outside for a change of scenery and exercise. It also helps me sleep better.

Thank you I didn’t even realise I had replies to my post so I saw your email first and replied.
The overwhelm and anxiety is like overall feeling form everything combined I feel. Most of the time I just spend all day really tearful and really anxious and I really struggle to understand what is causing that. Sometimes it takes me several days to figure out what is causing my overwhelm. I think at the moment it’s combination of bad physical health I’ve had recently so I’m a bit traumatised and really aware of any sensation and activities I did recently when I was unwell. Alongside with daily stressors and getting overwhelmed by a simple conversation that went wrong and it really got to me (happened a few times past few weeks). I’m supposed to have a phone appointment this Wednesday to hear about outcome from a meeting that mental health support worker had last or this week to get me more support.
At the moment I don’t have any mental health support and I’ve been in crisis off and on past few weeks so any support from mental health team I’d appreciate. I don’t have any friend and my family lives back in Estonia so I don’t have physically anyone around besides my partner and we don’t always agree on things but he cooks me food in the evenings and does major things I can’t do. So I guess that is helpful actually.
I managed to write most of my causes of overwhelm to Rosie’s reply so it’s just the first reply in this message. Anxiety wise I’ve always been a very anxious person and lately it’s just gotten much worse I guess constant worry something will go wrong or someone will have a go at me or simply anxious about getting through the day as I’ve not had a day I feel okay physically or mentally.
thank you that’s certainly something to keep in mind I’ve not been out of the house in weeks. I’ve been off work for a few months and last week when I attempted to return I lasted half a day and they suggested I take more time off as I’m not mentally or physically well at the moment as I can’t even cope with work right now. I used to go out for walks all the time but now I’m barely able to get out of the flat. :( I try and stand outside though just to get fresh air.

I used to love cycling, and have thought about an eTrike from Jorvik Tricycles.

I find something I can do, however small, and do it. Getting myself washed and dressed can feel overwhelming and too much, but I never regret the effort afterwards.
I also try and find perspective, look at the universe and remind myself how small and insignificant all my problems actually are.

I'm like a Vulcan more or less (without the green blood and big ears obviously), I have almost no emotions.

Do you mean this Vulcan🤭

thank you everyone.
My anxiety is so bad today :( ended up pinching myself so much to help cope with the anxiety and now I’m in bed and just struggling to feel calm.

Hi @QuietOak
Thinking and feeling outside yourself might help. Perhaps just thinking about what you see and hear in the field in this video, to give yourself a break from you? I love this....

thank you so much I really needed this right now. This is exact kinda sounds I used to hear as a child and teenager in my home country so it makes me miss my home country same time but calm as its nature.

You're most welcome. It reminds me of my home country too - Canada.
Be still and let Mother Nature speak to you a while, to hold you. ❤️
Good night and sweet dreams. 💝
