I have panic attacks and have been called for jury service,my doctor said they can't get involved with anything re court proceedings, has anyone else come across this ?

    I sent an email to the jury service people for my wife as her doctors before wouldn't do it, they said it was her duty to go, not very sympathetic of him. The result was, she didn't have to go.

    Hi @gillyg52 and welcome to the community. I found some information that explains what you need to do to be excused from jury service here https://www.gov.uk/jury-service/delaying-or-being-excused-from-jury-service

    If they turn down your request to be excused you can appeal their decision.

    I called the Sheriff Clerk at the Sheriff Court, the one named on the jury citation.

    I told them I use a powerchair, she asked if I had a car, which I don't. The 14 mile journey by bus, it would take 2 hours each way, as there is no direct route. A taxi would be very expensive if I was needed over days and weeks

    She immediately said I was excused jury service.

    you can get excused on medical grounds, especially if you're rural and cannot use public transport. respond to your summons explaining your disability and attach medical evidence.

    your doctor is a **** for refusing to write a letter, but they should still provide you your medical evidence upon request. A SAR would take too long, so you'll have to ask reception or the admin team directly.
