what will happen if i dont get the bank statements on time ?
Hi, i received an inheritance from my parents when they passed, but that has almost gone, i have £6000 left.. which i intended to to keep to pay for my own funeral upfront.. i have applied for universal credit, and have been told that i need to get 2 years back dated bank statements for all my bank accounts, what i dont understand is why i may have to show receipts for what ive bought.. i dont have receipts, but it will show on my bank statements.. i already feel im being scrutinised, and treated differently.. i suffer with depression and panic attacks, and all this scrutiny has made me feel ill. I have less than a week to get the bank statements , in preperation with my appointment with them.. what will happen if i dont get the bank statements on time ?

It's normal for UC to ask for bank statements if you have had a large lump sum such as inheritance or currently have savings.
They sometimes ask questions about large spending to check for “deprivation of capital” (where someone has intentionally spent or given away money to qualify for benefits).
Bank statements are usually the main evidence requested and they don't normally expect every receipt for 2 years, but they may ask questions about any larger payments in or out of your accounts especially if you don't have receipts.
If you're not going to have the statements ready in time you are best letting them know in advance with an explanation as to why. They can sometimes extend the deadline or rearrange your appointment. Usually they will be unable to proceed with your claim until this is provided.

If I had a £30,000 windfall, I would have to sign off UC. If I spent £25, 000 on a Rolex Submariner, then reapplied for UC the following month, I would rightfully be declined.
They just want to check that you lived sensibly on your inheritance, and didn't blow it all on something ridiculously expensive, such as in my example.

Hi @BeauJade and a warm welcome to the community from me!
it's very standard to be asked for UC to ask to see your bank statements especially after receiving a large sum of money in one go. Like ColonelBlink said above, as long as you didn't spend it all on something massively expensive you should be okay😊0
