Hi my user title is Ebony Olive

This was the name of my last dog who was a black border/lakeland terrier who lived until she was sixteen. She had a wee white frill a cross her chest and had dark olive eyes.

I have The Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia which further lead to clinicaI depression. My illness began after a head cold that very quickly disappeared after three days. It took me three weeks to get well enough to go back to college, however I was shocked to find out how difficult it was to climb stairs, my case was more heavy than before to carry and opening doors were very heavy. I only laster a few weeks, as I spiraled downwards and had to take time off again. I have been unwell on and off for thirty seven years. I can built myself up to a degree, however if I catch a virus or bad cold, it can set me back for many months at a time.

I fortunate to have a tolerant understanding husband who looks after me when I cannot do much. I am in the second half of my sixties and my husband is just into the second half of his seventies. Sometimes I feel like life is passing me by. We'd like to go places and there are few places abroad we'd like to visit. But so far, I have not been able to build myself up enough to do so. As you will probably understand, you need to be fit to travel and you need to be fit to enjoy a holiday.

Over the years my family have stepped back from me and I have found it difficult to keep or make new friends, since I became ill. It can be lonely at times.

I keep in touch with a cousin who is a caring person. We have a cat and a cocker spaniel and although a bit of work they bring us much joy in our lives.

Hi @Ebonyolive welcome to the Community from me too. I hope you enjoy your time on the forum. Any questions just ask.

Thank you for telling us something about yourself.

Family and friends do not always understand the illness we have and the impact on our lives and just expect us to be the same as before.

Pets do bring a lot of joy into our lives and are very understanding when we are having a bad day.

Have a look around and join in when you are ready.

    Take care.

Hi @Ebonyolive - & welcome to the forum. I really enjoyed reading your informative first post.

When you have fatigue from whatever disdorder it's draining & understandably can affect your mental health.

My son & his wife have a lovely Bedlington terrier whom I normally look after 3 days a week. I'm a terrier fan, tho my mischievous cat is not always!

I wonder if you & your husband have considered going on a cruise. I'm looking forward to going on my first one next year with my son & his wife who have 2 cruises under their belt. On some of the smaller ships you can simply relax & enjoy good food; they preferred a smaller ship so we're going on the one they first cruised with last year.

My son has the same genetic disorder he inherited from myself (the hypermobile type of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome which shares some similarities with fibromyalgia) & his wife suffers from fatigue too, so we're fine with going at a slower pace together.

The fact I have something to look forward to (as they invited me to join them on this cruise the day they booked it), gives me so much pleasure.

My Dad's last Dog was called Ebony Gleam at Darrilens, pet name Bonnie, we had another Dog called Max, sadly they both died of Cancer in early 1998 within a short space of each other, but they were both about 14 (which is 98 in human years) so they were getting on a bit.

Hi @Ebonyolive and a warm welcome to the community from me!

Thank you for telling us a little bit about yourself, your physical health can definitely impact your mental health.

Ebony Olive sounds so cute and wow, 16! That's an amazing age for a dog.

It's good to hear that you have a supportive husband and a cat and a cocker spaniel by your side. Do they pets get on? Or do they keep you on your toes?

We have lots of members with lots of different (but cute) pets on the community and we have a Pets Corner that you may be interested as this is where we post photos of our furry friends😊

It's lovely to have you here and I look forward to seeing you around the community!
