"I've been dealing with very intense anxiety, maybe even panic. I've tried a lot of NHS mental health services, but it's been hit or miss. Have others felt frustrated with this? What actually helped you?

Self awareness, self compassion & a gratitude practice (hard at first-gets easier/more automatic).

I called the rape crisis number - honestly I think they were on drugs-bored/whatever. Several times (like x5). I'd rather talk to the wall than someone who is clearly so disinterested they may as well have had their feet up and been yawning. It's actually worse. Now I'm just talking to myself-not sure that helps. Sorry.

I completely agree with @justsaying2025 in that self awareness and compassion is so important. I know from personal experience it can be really difficult to find the right support/people for you. I spoke to my cousin the other day who works within the NHS and speaks to people who have been through similar experiences to myself. He suggested to me some alternatives that might work, such as local groups where you can talk with other people who have been through similar experiences, and also alternative therapies. But it's important to find the right person where you feel open to talk to them. Just thought I'd share this in case it was helpful to you too.

Holly_Scope. "I've become more self-aware over the years, but I still find it hard to open up to people. I've had some difficult experiences with friendships and past relationships, and it's made trusting others harder. I'm trying to understand how to find people who feel emotionally safe to talk to."
