Serial killers!! They fascinate me for some strange reason, and my 12 year old granddaughter is the same. Our TV viewing when she comes to stay is somewhat bizarre 🤨

Serial killers fascinate me too @vikingqueen! True crime is such a popular topic nowadays. I'd love to get inside their mind. Have you watched Mindhunter? Annoyingly it got cancelled before it was finished but that was a great look at Edmund Kemper and BTK.

I just find virtually EVERYTHING fascinating?!! I'm still quite childlike in i just want to learn new things all the time, i just soak up knowledge like a sponge, i can't know enough stuff and it clutters my brain! Unique…..not sure really, i used to love trains as a kid, and set a goal of visiting every train station in the UK, i'm currently halfway through roughly. Same with Football grounds, racecourses, cricket grounds, my Dad dragged me all over the place so i wanted to get to every single venue, like the trains, but it's seemingly an unobtainable goal!! I also have about 70 odd different beer bottles from different countries……🤤

@Rachel_Scope … re Bus Stops. After doing a lot of image searching, I like the ones that are straight lines and placed circles in them … appeals to the designer in me. But there is one in Khyzastan (sp) where it looks like an old shipping container but got a huge statue of a soldier on a horse on top of it. The 2 worlds of opulence and derelict is … wow 2. I think my fascination of Cuba being a country I'd loved to have visited is some of the architecture from the communist influence. Just stunning. Old world caribbean meets austere
re. the heat in the woods … no fans, copious amounts of water and hydration tablets. Funny enough we only climbed trees to put cables in … there's a saying, 12 inches of a tree at the base is worth 10 times the 12 foot at the top. Plus I was never a big fan of climbing … not scared of heights … it;s hitting the bottom that scared me 😉
@66Mustang … I agree that certain jobs are looked at with snobbery, but without the people doing them the country would grind to a halt. My son left the teaching profession to become a barber … more money, less stress. I know some people who have left the NHS and emergency services to work on the railway … should a train cleaner be valued more than a Paramedic/ Nurse/ Policeman ? Morally no, but can you blame people wanting more money less stress if it's offered
Back onto Russia, I'll never forget a book I read in the 90's about life in The Gulags, but I can't remember the name 🤣 It was brutal. A bit like the Japanese POWs. You had to be a special type of person to survive that regime

I've never looked into Cuban architecture but I definitely will. I'm not sure I'd cope with reading about the Gulags. I think I'll stick to the architecture 😅 You might be interested in Dacha, which are Russian holiday homes.

@Rachel_Scope … that's the one. Isn't that' beautiful against the skyline, and flat vista. I hadn't noticed the chest. That adds a bit more surreality to it. I've seen the Dachas before. I love anything quirky. So much beautiful architecture in all the former soviet states
As for the heat … being self-employed, it was work or not get paid. It took 6000 calories a day to only lose a stone over 3 months … stop at a roadside caravan for breakfast baps. Food box in work. Chippy on the way home and then an evening meal. Mad days, considering I survive on 2 slices of toast some days now 🙄

My granddaughter and I reckon we are good for a perfect murder… but I realised I really don't like blood so it would have to be plan B ….still working on that though

I must admit I'm not a lover of blood. Never minded my own but that of other people and it's a bit icky … I could make some suggestions but don't want to be up on a conspiracy charge 😏

I think my Dad could relate, he left a 36 year career as a detective to become an odd-job man/handyman for the NHS. Basically, he got paid to potter, which is something he enjoys. He said he got more "thank you"s from colleagues after 2 years of sweeping floors and fixing toilets than 3 decades locking up bank robbers and child rapists
Was the book you mentioned called A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich?
r.e. female serial killers and finding them more interesting there's a podcast my dad listened to which was about female killers, I can't remember the name but will have to ask him. I think the motive was on how they were treated vs. how they may be treated now - not in an attempt to absolve them but more mental health/support may have come into play rather than prison (or worse)

A freind asked me to go horse riding aged 12
I was hooked
I went every weekend helping out all. Hours
I qualified as a riding instructor aged 21
I bought my first horse a foal when I was 18 and took her to a local raving stables I worked there for my horses training
I ended up working in 3 raving yards a point to point yard a show jumping yard and I ran 3 riding schools

It's hard work and you need to. Be very fit

@Amberpearl I've done a little bit of horseriding and I can imagine how fit you must need to be to be racing over jumps! What was your first horse called?

I used to do Horse riding a long time ago at a place out in deepest, darkest Lincolnshire, just riding round an indoor Paddock.
It was a laugh but the saddles aren't the most comfortable thing to sit on.
