Feeling low
I’ve felt low since the beginning of the year and several things have happened and it just got too much so I reached out for help from my local mental health team after 2 assessments as the first assessment lady said I needed a more in depth Assesment as I had several things going on, I am in a 5 month waiting list for help and counselling , when I found out how long the list was I cried , I said to the lady who assessed me what do I do in the mean time, she suggested asking GP for anti depressants, I do not want to go on them for various reasons that are my own choice, I just dread to think what people do who are worse off than me if they have to wait so long for help. Some days are easier than others, I have 4 people that really depend on my help in my house aswell as trying to be a good mum to 5 children, wife, daughter sister and friend, it’s a lot to juggle but I am trying my best.
I was diagnosed with OCD, trauma, GAD and depression. Some of these things I’ve suffered with but struggled along with for 20 plus years or more some are within the last few years. I’m an over thinker so that doesn’t help.
Coming on this site and receiving positive messages about things that play on my mind have helped me a lot so thank you to those people you know who you are :)

Hey @dannistar, I'm glad to hear that being on the community has helped you with getting through everything you're having to deal with at the moment. It really is difficult when you ask for help, it's accepted by the doctor you need help, but you're then told help will be months away.
We've sent an email to you as well by the way, if you could keep an eye out for it 😊

Feeling low again, I had 6 weekly session from a professional but I’m struggling again. I can’t keep asking for help as I feel like there’s only so much these professionals can do, they can’t take away my troubles no one can. These last 2 in a 1/2 years have been rough.

Sorry to hear this @SheffieldMan1976 - that must be really frustrating. Do you have anything you can do in the meantime to keep you busy? I appreciate it's not the same as getting out and about but hopefully there's some distractions you enjoy.

I'm not exactly partying my way through each week either, you need to to try and look at the positive aspects of your life.
Look at all the places and events you have experienced this year. I don't get any of that, but I refuse to feel sorry for myself.

Sorry to hear that @SheffieldMan1976. Is there anyone you can talk to about it? Sometimes a problem shared is a problem halved, in the meantime try and focus on positive things instead.

Unfortunately not everyone, myself included, is able to be so resilient. Are you just naturally resilient or was it something you worked on?

I have decided to come off Facebook too depressing, waiting for my info from them like photos to be downloaded from them, then I will delete my account. Its full of horrible things now. Especially animal abuse. And all what's going on in the world. My mental health not good and this isn't helping. My daughter said load of times to come off it and she's right

Sorry to hear. I dont blame about antidepressants i dont think they work that well but you might want to ask gp for a sedative a night to help avoid alcohol or self medication it can give you relief and if you have counciling you less likely to rely on it. If you have people depending on you thats good but make time for self?

Hi I don't post a lot on these boards but I've been struggling with burping for nearly a year now. Been to the doctors and there's nothing wrong internally which is good. I know it's to do with posture because it happens when my head is bent. I have exercises from my physio which I am doing, but it's hard to stay positive as it's been happening for a long time and i just want it to go away. Has anyone else experienced this? I have cerebral palsy.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It sounds like you have been carrying an enormous amount for a long time, and reaching out for support was a really positive and important step.
Waiting months for mental health support can feel incredibly discouraging, especially when you’ve already reached a point where you know you need help. It’s understandable that hearing there was a five-month wait felt overwhelming. The fact that you are still trying to care for your family, support others in your home, and keep going despite everything you’re dealing with shows how much strength and resilience you have.
It’s also completely okay that you want to make choices about your treatment carefully. Everyone’s journey is different, and what works for one person may not feel right for another. While you’re waiting for counselling, it may help to keep using the things that give you some relief, whether that’s talking to supportive people, writing thoughts down, gentle routines, or finding communities where you feel understood.
Living with OCD, trauma, anxiety, and depression can be exhausting, especially when your mind is constantly analysing and worrying. Try to remember that you don’t have to be everything to everyone all the time. Looking after yourself is also important, because you deserve support too.
It’s encouraging to hear that this community has helped you feel less alone. Sometimes sharing experiences and finding people who understand can make difficult periods feel a little more manageable.
For anyone supporting family members or dealing with changing responsibilities, having the right practical support around you can also make a difference. Planning care and support needs early can help reduce pressure and protect wellbeing, especially when life already feels overwhelming. Some families explore different support options that help people maintain independence and receive assistance .
I hope your counselling comes around sooner than expected, and in the meantime, please keep reaching out when things feel heavy. You’re doing your best in a very difficult situation, and that matters. 💙
