I'm sorry it's causing you so much worry @yellowpineapple84. I really hope that everything will be ok. Have you got any plans this week that could help take your mind off it a little bit?

Hi, thanks for your reply. Not really, I’m too afraid to spend money now in case I’m going to really need it in case the worst should happen. I’ve got myself down to one meal a day in preparation. Just been planning for the worst the last few days. Don’t go out, don’t spend money, keep myself to myself. Before I first got PIP I remember how much of a struggle it was and the economy is worse now than it was then so I feel quite bleak. It’s also a horrible feeling knowing that my life is in the hands of a total stranger who doesn’t know me, they could deny me support so easily without a care in the world and move onto their next name on a list and that’s quite scary

Hi @yellowpineapple84 sorry I've not seen your post for a little while. I'm pleased you managed to get another extension and it made it's way to them ok. It's completely understandable your worried, but I just know you've put so much time and energy into ensuring you've done the best possible job with the paperwork.

I'm so sorry it's impacting you to the point you've reduced your meals to one. Have you thought about perhaps reaching out to a local foodbank to help ease some of the pressure on you? Your local council should have a bank that they use but if you want some additional links, please let me know. I'm also going to pop you an email with some potential support options, whilst things are so worrying for you at the minute.

I hope you hear back soon and that in the near future, this is all just a distant memory but please look after yourself in the meantime.

Hi, thanks for your email. I don’t feel I can go forward with the suggestions in it, thanks for writing though. Just really hoping the review will go my way and that I can be okay. Trying to prepare myself for the worst outcome as best I can

Awww yay! I'm beyond happy for you @yellowpineapple84. I was very nervous when I started reading your post but I'm sooooooo pleased it was good news. That must be such a relief and a huge weight lifted.

Do you have any plans today? I hope you can have a nice relaxing day, maybe a treat day - something that makes you feel happy 😊

That's amazing news @yellowpineapple84! I'm so happy for you. Now you've been awarded for 6 years are you going to make sure you eat more than one meal a day? You need to look after yourself 😊

@Holly_Scope @Rachel_Scope Hi thanks for replying and warmth :) The relief is very huge, the fear was very real and heavy and daily. I’ve felt so bleak. How this process weighs on a mind is horrible. Can’t articulate well how horrible it felt. So I feel really grateful, 6 years is a really helpful amount of time. Very surprised they made such a fast decision, within two weeks and no contact about assessment whether phone or in person. I did send a lot of supportive evidence, in absolute fear I gathered so much supporting documents from so many professionals to give my review the best possible chance to get through. I tried to overwhelm the review with evidence out of fear as I simply don’t trust the DWP and I thought they will try to find any small hole in my review so they could deny me. I didn’t think I could be sat here now feeling this relief, I really thought I was going to lose this support.

I’m going to contact Citizens Advice and thank them as they helped me with this review, they were really great with me and saw me face-to-face and gave me a lot of time. I wanted to write in here too and thank you for helping and supporting me. And then today I have a doctor appointment and then I would like a treat of some kind, maybe a chocolate muffin :)

And I will return to eating more than one meal a day, thank-you for encouraging that :) I was just trying to prepare for the worst scenario. I figured it would be best if I got used to one meal a day in time for the worst scenario to happen when I would have no financial choice but thankfully it’s okay and I can afford to eat again :)

I can't begin to imagine how it impacted you - it's such a lifechanging lifeline and many people (understandably) feel this way. I'm just so pleased it's gone your way, and it's a decent award length so you don't need to worry about your next review for a long time.

That decision is a testament to the time and detail you put into the review paperwork! 😊

You're very welcome @yellowpineapple84. I'm so glad that you can relax now and leave the fear behind. A chocolate muffin sounds like a lovely treat. Do you like the ones with gooey chocolate inside? They're my favourite.

I'm happy to hear that you're going to eat more than one meal a day now. What's your favourite meal?

@Holly_Scope @Rachel_Scope Thank-you :) I can feel a difference in myself today, very quickly from the moment I was reading the letter. It really does feel like some kind of weight has been lifted, a heaviness inside lifted. And I sent an email again to the email you kindly sent recently, I just wanted to see if there was a way I could help going forwards so please let me know if that’s still ongoing or have I missed the chance to contribute towards that? I’d be happy to help if I can :)

And those are my favourite chocolate muffins too and I’ve bought two of these ones just now, they are really great aren’t they :)

And my favourite meal is making chilli con carne but not too hot. But I can make the sauce and everything, I’ve been practicing and improving and find the prep and cooking therapeutic. What is your favourite meal? :)

    @Santosha12 @luvpink thank-you both so much :)

This online community really helped me and hopefully I can reciprocate that.

I’m taken aback by the time they’ve given me, the most I was hoping for was another 3 years and I was afraid I wouldn’t get that. So to give me 6, I’m very grateful to them and the more I’ve reflected on it the more I’ve seen they’ve handled me really well. They gave me an extension in returning my forms twice without punishing me, they were very kind on the phone each time I called to ask for an extension and they’ve approved my review in 2 weeks without harassing me. They’ve actually been really nice to me so I’m very thankful for this. I’m aware though that there are people who have not had such a kind experience or contact with them and that really needs to change. I don’t understand why they’re more kinder and patient and understanding to some than others? I’ve been living in fear partly because I’ve read and heard other people’s horror stories

Ooh good on you for treating yourself to a couple of muffins! Glad you got the gooey ones. I've never had chilli con carne. I like how you've been perfecting the recipe over time. Would you say it's your signature dish? I don't really cook but luckily I love pizza which doesn't take much effort!

I'll take a look at your email now 😊

@Santosha12 Hello, hope you’re okay tonight and can rest as comfortably as possible in this heat :) My room is really uncomfortable so I’m going to try some more of the ideas shared recently in the hot temps chat. Hope you’re okay! :)

Thanks for sharing and I’d really like to help and be supportive when your review arrives. If you feel comfortable to ask for help/advice when your review time arrives I’d be very happy to be part of that support :) There are many in this community who really know PIP process in a better understanding than me and I learned from them and reading their helpful replies to others who also asked similar questions to my own. With my own experience of going through initial PIP application and now the review I can add my voice too and hopefully help others, I’m going to really try and be an active member of this online community particularly around PIP :)

That’s so cool you have 4 dogs to keep you company! I love animals and wish I had an animal friend of my own. Sadly I can’t have but have previously and they really help make a home a brighter place! Getting up to 1700 calories a day is hard, I struggle to do this too. Do you like custard? I used to drink custard, that’s high in calories. I’m not sure how healthy that is though so maybe check that one with your dietetic first!

I can really relate to the budgeting around food and it is so hard these days. Do you like oats? When my review began and I expected imminent financial ruin I bought a kilo of oats from Sainsbury’s for 85p and was beginning to live off that mixed with milk and actually quite liked it! I’m going to continue with my kilo of oats, it is healthy and 85p is great! As for your mackerel I think that will be very good for iron? I go through iron deficiencies so I eat spinach leaves from the bag as though it’s a packet of crisps. And don’t feel bad about over-stocking, you really need this food to help your diet. If it makes you feel better I’ve got pasta stacked in my room like sandbags. I really struggle with anxiety around the PIP process so I tried to prepare as best I could ☺️

That would be really helpful for us all in this process if they could include that knowledge in the text. By saying in the text not to call them and wait two weeks for the letter is really hard on the mind. Really hard. I feared the worst and I was already feeling so bleak about it. I don’t understand this. And I really don’t think I should be reduced to tears of relief in reading the letter. Of course I’d prefer tears of relief but that shouldn’t be happening, I’m not really someone who cries so that tells me I must really have been in a difficult space these last weeks worrying about this review. Nobody should be feeling like this. But the relief was so profound and strong in that moment reading the positive outcome that I just wept. I can afford to be alive and that is a sentence nobody should have to write

@Rachel_Scope thanks I really enjoyed my chocolate muffins today :) I was thinking of getting ingredients tomorrow/today for chilli con carne as it’s been a while since I made that. I guess it’s my signature dish, I also do stuffed peppers :)

Do you not like chilli con carne? I have a really low spice tolerance so mine is more flavour than spice :) what toppings do you like on your pizza?

  • Rachel_Scope
Rachel_Scope Posts: 4,226 Online Community Team

No I don't @yellowpineapple84 but I don't like much to be fair! My most adventurous meal that I like is spinach and halloumi curry that my husband makes. It's absolutely delicious and of course needs to be paired with a garlic naan. I'm the same as you for spice tolerance.

I love a pepperoni stuffed crust or a four cheese pizza. I once had blue cheese on a pizza and it was surprisingly good!

What do you put in your stuffed peppers? Again, I'm not a fan but they do always look good.

@Rachel_Scope That does sound very tasty and healthy too, the spinach will be full of iron and I can understand how you will enjoy that meal with the garlic naan :)

I buy orange and red peppers and after cutting them in half I add in each pepper half olive oil and whilst they’re cooking I basically make a non-chilli con carne to stuff the peppers with. I fry mince whilst adding into the frying pan tin chopped tomatoes and I chop up onion and courgette and add this into the frying pan and I squeeze a bit of garlic in with one of those garlic squeezers and I also add herbs/spices such as cumin, paprika, oregano and stir it all in and around and by this point it smells absolutely incredible and then when that’s ready I eagerly shovel it into the pepper halves and pat the contents down with a spatula so the peppers are well and truly stuffed :)

I could really imagine cooking the stuffed peppers from your description @yellowpineapple84.

@Rachel_Scope That’s great, they are really yummy :)

Me too, I’ve spent the last couple of days soothing my mind and reassuring myself that it really is done and my appetite has started to come back a little. I’ve made sure to email the person from Citizens Advice to thank her for helping me complete my review forms and just starting to really relax now as I think the last couple of days the relief was so strong I couldn’t properly relax in my body and mind ☺️
