PIP Review second extension unusually kind?
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to share my experience with asking for extensions. I called PIP around a month ago and asked for an extension, I was given 28 until 4/7/26 days I didnt have to explain myself and I didnt ask for that amount of time. They sent me a txt and letter to confirm
Today I called as I needed another due to my health and the fact I do not have support until after the due date of 9/7/26. Claire who I spoke to on the phone gave me until the 24th, which i was next expecting, she was extra generous saying that the post had been particularly bad. She did not speak to a manager as far as i am aware.
I was grateful, I advised her I would be sending a letter to confirm the call and ask for confirmation in return, she told me I didnt need to do this as the call was recorded. I advised due to my own sanity (or what’s left of it anyway) that i would be writing to confirm regardless, which i AM.
This not being my first experience with the DWP im quite shocked by their generosity but also concerned the second one cannot be confirmed by them, which is odd.
Does anyone have any thoughts about this? All I’ve read and heard is that they give 2 weeks, then another 2 weeks if you’re lucky. My experience has been quite different.
Big love.

As part of my role I help individuals apply for PIP and in my experience it is very easy to get an initial extension of up to a month. Due to delays in receiving the PIP form I find that individuals often struggle to complete and return the form in time. Other individuals need to complete the form over several weeks due to illness or have to wait to see an adviser from an advice agency. If you ask for a second extension you are quite often but not always put through to a case manager who I find usually grant a second extension without any issues.

Morning @Tomwise 😊 Thanks for sharing this.
They've been really supportive here! I think they must have an element of discretion with extensions and Claire sounds really understanding. I bet it's a big relief.

Thnak you so much @Lauren29 @Holly_Scope your right it is a huge relief. Im still in a bit of shock and disbelief to be quite honest, also spoke to wonderful guy called Kieran before.
I hope everyone else gets treated like this.
I’ve still got to send the letter because I cant be 100%convinced that this will happen due to previous experiences.

hi
I’m at tribunal stage of pip since applying in 2024 and still have not had a date as to when it will all be dealt with.
I’ve been asked by work to resign due to absences. As you can imagine I’m really stressed and I don’t know what to do.
Any advice or input?

Hi @cherrypineapple47 I'd suggest not resigning if you can avoid it as it'll be more difficult to obtain certain benefit support. Have you been waiting long for your tribunal?
