I must say that a meltdown I had, did nearly kill me, I couldn't take any more of me and the thoughts, and it's only a fortuitous knock on the door that stopped me doing something drastic to stop feeling like I did

It's a lot cooler today, and not wanting to sound like a condescending pratt … let's chill. Please 🙂

    Perfect words @WelshBlue.

I'm so sorry you've been in such a dark place with meltdowns before and I'm glad the universe reached you in time

Thanks @Anhedonia2 … same back at you for your oil on troubled waters here.

,,, and I'm glad the universe reached you in time … I am so going to use that in one of my song lyrics. Thanks. I'm lucky. I make no qualms about that. The support I've received has been second to none to get me to where I am. Not always strong, but at least I bend, not break now

… is why I don't want to see this thread become triggering for anyone with the conflict etc

Or a very informative thread shut down

    Safe places and all that

Thats a great way to look at it @WelshBlue, bend not break! ☺️

How often do you write music?

    Hi all,

A number of posts have been removed or edited in this discussion. There has been some really supportive and informative discussion here and it would be a shame to lose that. So please remember to treat each other with understanding and respect and take a break if you are feeling frustrated by other members.

It's especially important to remember that members may have communication differences or might struggle to feel understood by others. That's one thing that I'm many of us have in common with each other. I hope we can put our differences aside and move forward with empathy and kindness towards everyone's individual situations ☺️

Thanks for all you've contributed so far.

To answer your question, no, not all autistic people have meltdowns.

I hope you can explore this further another time. You know we care about you.

    @Santosha12 … very well put

I totally get … not at your expense. The mind is such a powerful yet sometimes fragile piece of kit, what triggers one person may not another. And vice versa

We've all got to look after our own wellbeing in the ways that suit ourselves. In the world of PTSD & CPTSD there is no one size fits all. If that sometimes comes across as selfish to others, so be it. I'm now at a stage where I need to put myself first … I am not risking my MH for anyone. I would die or kill for them but, I will always now put myself first if I even sniff a relapse coming on

I'm nearly 60 and finally like myself. And discovered I'm also worth being kind to myself

In my world I'm learning to keep the meltdowns … if not banished, as brief as possible, be that minutes, hours or worse case scenario sometimes days. My PTSD manifests a need to have control … not over others, but myself and what I can control

I too would like to see this thread continue … any resource to keep the darkness away from just one person can only be a good thing

No matter in what guise or reason, illness, disability that darkness/ meltdown derives from

Thank you so much for your openness and bravery in sharing that, Welshblue.

What you went through sounds incredibly terrifying and it really highlights just how dangerous and overwhelming a meltdown can be when you are pushed to your absolute limit. I am so deeply glad that knock on the door happened and that you are still here with us today.

Thank you for reminding everyone why we need to take the sheer distress of meltdowns so seriously.

Thanks for the reply, I guess it's better to ask such things on a new thread? I just wondered if all autistic people suffered meltdowns, then I could rule it out for myself, having never had one.

Believe me I wasn't always so open. Masking with drink and drugs, rages of biblical proportions, risky behaviour, destructive behaviour … meltdowns at feeling like me, meltdowns at hating the World … meltdowns at the silliest things … meltdowns at people who only cared about me

Until that day when I couldn't sink any lower. A letter to my GP dropped into the surgery changed my life

… but thanks, I'm lucky I can express things openly. Mainly because of fantastic hand holding by so many in the NHS. And myself and those around me

have a great rest of the weekend and I hope you get respite from this heat
