I know, I am thinking of predicting that the overall winning team will be Cape Verde with the way the results are going so far! ๐
It's fun having new and unexpected teams winning though, I like it a lot. ๐

Hello :) I really enjoyed watching the USA game, they played really well and attractively, invention and forward running. Even when they had less players than Bosnia they still ran forwards and showed invention in trying to break the lines. England appear incapable of doing this when they have the same amount of players as the opposition and I feel a lot of football fans would say England are a better team on paper than USA. So itโs really bizarre how England play and have played for many years now. I will be supporting Mexico in the next game, England are really really poor and I canโt support them. The amount of money theyโre on with the complete lack of initiative and inability to run forwards with a football or even run forwards without a football is so poor. I donโt think it is a managerโs fault as this has been happening as far back as when Fabio Capello was manager and maybe even predates that :(

I think Spain will win and Croatia win and Switzerland to win. Looking forward to these games and hope they can be exciting and fun to watch :)

I thought that England did manage to change, and played some good games, under Gareth Southgate in the Russia world cup and the 2021 Euros. Then they started to backslide a bit, but still usually got through the tournament gamesโฆ.. until they didn't.
They now seem to be back to playing like they are scared of the ball part of the time, with outright panic followed by the occasional flash of skill and brillance. It's exhausting to watch!
๐ฐ
Apologies for sounding negative, this is just my reaction after watching last night, but I'm no expert!

my part-Austrian roommate looks especially tense during this Spain game!

It was always going to be a Spain win. Just a matter of by how many.

Hello :) I enjoyed the Spain game and hoping there is another about to start as I canโt sleep. Hope everyone can sleep well tonight :)

if you went on to watch the Portugal v Croatia match then you still didn't get to sleep - that was a bit of a classic! I wish Croatia had won though.

Morning all,
Last night saw decisive wins for Spain and Switzerland and a whole bundle of controversy as Portugal progressed at Croatia's expense. That leaves us with just three more games from the last-32 left to play and they'll be happening tonight:
7pm (BST): Australia (@Elaine1961) v Egypt (@Rosie_Scope)
11pm (BST): Argentina (@Hope64 and @Alisonjaneg) v Cape Verde (@SlowMode)
2.30pm (BST): Colombia (@Bluebell21 and @elle19) v Ghana (@StoryGuy)
Out of these six teams, who's making it through to the last-16?

My predictions: wins for Egypt, Argentina, Columbia.
With an honorable display from Cape Verde, who have been stellar for the tournament so far.
as usual, other predictions are available (and probably more reliable!) ๐

Hopefully a win for Columbia which is my team. Unlikely to be watching at 2.30am will have to catch up later in the day.

I Know one thing I cannot see England winning it. My Money would be on Portugal, Argentina or France assuming I was a betting man which I aint lol. If England make it past Mexico I'd certainly think they'd meet their match with Brazil.

Well If I was a Gambling Man which I aint lol I'd bet on Argentina, France or Portugal to walk away with the Cup. If England do make it past Mexico they will meet their demise with Brazil.

Brazil is definitely going to be a tough one if we do beat Mexico. ๐๏ธ
I'm not sure I'll be able to handle watching it after the ups and downs of the last game ๐ I got VERY into it ๐คฃ

England haven't faced stiff opposition yet, not any team they are aren't expected to beat anyway.
Scotland were doomed to failure drawing both Brazil and Morocco, both top 10 teams. Like I said before, us getting to the WC finals was our goal, anything else would be a nice surprise.
I imagine England will overcome Mexico, but then there is no hiding place! I would expect them to usually beat the Netherlands and maybe Portugal, but who knows against Spain and France, saying nothing of the two South American giants.

Well if I didn't watch it I'd be up all night wondering what the score was lol so might as well sit and watch it. I just have to be mindful that I have Neighbours either side of me as well as up above and if I cheer too loudly should England score I might get some complaints. The joys of living in a Retirement complex and grandma next door (That's just a figure of Speech lol) goes to bed at half past ten lol. I'm 65 going on 66 but I don't go to bed at half past 10 lol.

I realised very quickly just how easy it is to get carried away watching England play so I feel your pain. ๐ Oh nooooโฆ you might be very unpopular the next day. ๐ Do you get on with your neighbours? I feel like you probably do. I'm sure they'd forgive you.
1 -
Yeah I get on with them ok. Some did complain once and the ILO mentioned it to me apperntly my TV was too loud in an evening so now I have headphones connected to it. I would have appreciated the offended neighbour coming and knocking on my door instead of going to the ILO but not to worry. I quite enjoy watching TV with headphones on it drowns any other noises out lol.

Yeah, I get that. It's the polite thing to do, to talk to you first. I'm sure you'd have been incredibly understanding and lowered the sound.
As long as you don't mind having your headphones in. Bet it's like surround sound ๐

Late news
England's World Cup last-16 tie with Mexico is set to be moved to 19:00 BST on Sunday.
Fifa is understood to be bringing forward the game at Azteca, Mexico City, which had been scheduled to kick off at 01:00 BST on Monday (18:00 local time on Sunday).
Forecasts suggest there could be thunderstorms and heavy rain around that time, though Fifa has not yet provided any explanation for the change.
Under tournament safety rules, any lightning strikes detected within eight miles of the stadium result in an automatic 30-minute delay to play.
