Industrial Accident - any experience of claiming ?

IIDB, Exceptional Rate CAA and Constant Attendance Allowance (exceptional rate)

Does anybody have any experience of claiming these ?

My claim is extremely complex and involves being prescribed a drug by a military doctor, 36 years ago that has had a devastating ongoing effect on me - when I was not in the armed services !

Before anyone says "too late .. 36 years" - it's not, because I only discovered the true facts recently through SARS…..

I have full medical records as evidence of malpractice.

There is also the option of suing the government ?

    I would draw your attention to the Christmas Island Nuclear Test Veterans, who are still being denied justice 70 plus years later.

    Yes - but this happened in UK

    I have used SARs to request the information from MOD, but am guessing that it no longer exists !

    For example - do I put in a claim for IIDB and if they reject me - use legal protection on my home insurance to fight them - or do I go straight to legal protection - tell them what I am doing and leave it to them ?

    Also I have suing MOD as an option !

    ps I am not scared to take the government to court for what they did to me !

    I have lived 36 years believing that I was responsible for my own demise - when all along it was caused by a drug administered to me, by work (on the pretense that it would help me) - that damaged my health permanently - it has caused me loss of friends, jobs, health etc

    if I were a cynic, I would imagine your file has been 'lost' in a fire, flood, plague, take your pick.

    The Nuclear Test Veterans, Infected Blood Enquiry etc, the government are running down the clock on those people's lives. I imagine it would be a waste of your time and energy.

    I have considerable experience of filling in forms.

    I successfully claimed Medical Retirement from the Government - Despite not having worked for them for over 4 years !

    Also - medical retirement from a school job - despite being told that only 4 people had successfully achieved any tier of retirement - I managed to get offered band 1 - the highest !

    Plus I managed to obtain enhanced PIP mobility and daily living - without any form of "face to face or phone" assessment - So, I can handle this on my own !

    If a person inhales radioactive aerosols, the radioactive contamination remains within the body, and specific radioactive isotopes are easily detected using appropriate measuring equipment. Such equipment is certainly available in France, Germany, the United States, and Russia.

    I received an anoxic brain injury through being prescribed a drug called "disulfiram" by a Naval Surgeon - when I was a civilian !!

    I was on an alcohol awareness course - run for naval personnel - the drug is known to cause this problem and it put me in a coma and has had life changing consequences.

    This all happened 36 years ago and evidently there is no restriction on backdating claims !

    I have all of my medical records (obtained last year through SARS) - which clearly indicate what happened and am starting a claim for IIDB - using META AI as my main adviser.

    Hi @Wibbles. I too do high-level forms on my own as it's one of the things I'm really good at. It certainly helps taking on new battles when you have the confidence in knowing that you're good at it. Good luck to you.

    Its looking quite promising - collaborating with AI (*2) agree with each other

    The money will be "useful" - 100% = £514.20 per week - and it is tax free and does not affect PIP or CA

    Also - there appears to be considerable collusion between NHS staff to hide what really happened to me !

    I have 2 separate letters from my former NHS neurologist written on the same day (back in 1994) one to my specialist neurologist in London quoting that, as far as he is aware, I didn't take any disulfiram "ever" and a second letter to my NHS GP - explaining that I had been on the drug for 14 days in February 1991…….

    If Wibbles disappears without trace - one day - you know where to start looking.

    I have asked CAB for help/advice - but as yet NO response !

    I have now sent CAB 2 separate web forms (my local CAB doesn't provide an email address)

    The first a week ago Thursday, the second last Tuesday - still absolutely nothing heard - I have sent head office a complaint !

    I tried HEADWAY - Who advise me to contact CAB !

    You couldn't make this sort of thing up.

    CAB are trying to help lots of people and some have a waiting list. They are made up of a significant number of volunteers although they do have some paid staff. @Wibbles

    What you are asking then for help with is not straight forward.

    I do not think you have waited that long and to expect an instant answer is not realistic.

    It could be that CAB are not able to help you.

    Can I ask how much monitoring you would have expected while on this drug. You only took it for 14 days? Also you carried on drinking alcohol when you had been told not to.

    I also would not have thought AI would be the best advice they do not always get it right.

    OK But I would have at least expected a response from CAB.

    Antabuse requires close supervision, regular monitoring, and strict counselling on alcohol avoidance; I received none of this, took the drug for 14 days, continued drinking because I did not understand the danger, and suffered a severe toxic reaction that caused permanent globus pallidus injury.

    My medical records, showing that I had been prescribed Antabuse did not get transferred to RN from NHS (or vice versa) - so there was no record if my taking this drug - (remember that I was a CIVILIAN) - even though my GP was aware of the whole thing !

    Normal monitoring requirements include:

    • Initiation in a hospital or specialist clinic
      (BNF and SPC recommend this)
    • Baseline liver tests before starting
    • Follow‑up liver tests at 4 and 8 weeks
    • Review every 2 weeks for the first 2 months
      (Shared Care Guidelines)
    • Monthly reviews for the next 4 months
    • Supervised dosing — ideally daily, at least 3 times a week
      (Specialist supervision recommended)
    • Clear counselling about avoiding alcohol completely
      (including hidden alcohol in foods, medicines, toiletries)

    NONE OF WHICH I WAS GIVEN !

    I mean - I was given a pack of tablets and a friend / work colleague was supposed to be monitoring my taking them …

    I await the results of a SAR with interest - due within 10 days (If they still have the records)

    I was prescribed them, took the prescription to Boot's, got given a course of tablets. Apart from both the GP and pharmacist telling me to be sure to avoid alcohol, I was free to take them at home unsupervised. Where do you get the idea we would be in a hospital initially?

    You cannot compare what happens now to what happened 36 years ago. @Wibbles

    I enclose a link that show that continuing to drink alcohol when taking Antabuse would have made you very upwell so why would you continue to do this.
