PIP award randomly extended.

I recently won a PIp reasessment and was awarded until March 2029. Today I got a letter saying they have extended it until march 3031. Obviously this is good, but why did they do this?

Also is it true that if you win a PIP claim you no longer need an extra assessment for UC?

    This is good @Aella! I don't think the DWP have made an official statement about the reasons they are doing this yet but hopefully they will soon as a lot of people are wondering!

    Do you mean a works capability assessment please?

    Not necessarily, as PIP and UC are two separate benefits so you still may have to have WCAs @Aella

    hi all I checked proof off benefits yesterday, I was due a review 2031 from awarded 2021 , but the letter now says awarded from 2021 and is a indefinite award? Does this mean a light touch review? I get standard care

    I had a WCA in December 2015, they declared me UNFIT to work, despite the fact I'd spent most of the previous 20 years working on a voluntary basis for almost every registered Charity in Sheffield.

    I was fuming!

    But some time ago I read that they were going to stop doing separate assessments for people claiming both, if you passed pip you'd automatically get UC from now on. Are they not introducing that any more?

    Current plans are to scrap the WCA in a couple of years time. But you could still have another one before they scrap it.

    My daughter also had a letter extended her pip. She had a review last October

    Just received a letter stating my reward has been extended but only by 10 days, does

    Hi @terry123 was your original award April 2027? That's odd if so. Maybe just a glitch on their side when they've been extending other earlier reviews.

    We have seen a few short extensions now. Some for just 1 or 2 weeks. We've even seen one for just one 1 day! Currently unsure whether this is a glitch or whether it's just a quirk of the calculation that the computer system uses.

    For now I would assume that is the correct end date, unless you get another letter telling you otherwise. You could phone PIP to ask, but so far everyone that has done that on here has just been fobbed off without any further information.

    I was awarded 4 years until May 29 just had a letter extending it till May 31

    Hi Holly yes my original review date was 16th April 27 now extended till 26th April 27, total of 10 days

    Very strange. I do wonder if they're just bulk extending them through the system rather than manually and not picking these short ones up. Thanks for sharing.

    hiya Ella, i also got a letter from Pip saying they have extended my awarded for another two years. This is a good thing, as it likely means you will not be reassessed for a few years. I think it is to do with the backlog of assessments which they have. Don’t not worry about it. And in regards to UC, getting pip does not mean that you will automatically get UC LCWRA award. It can help with evidence but UC have their own assessment criteria.

    It is different if you are on New style ESA (which I am on) and UC you only need one assessment to assessment you limited capability to work, and if they deem you to have LCRWA, it will cover you for both.

    Hi again Holly and thanks for your insight. The thing is my main claim is set around years of severe back pain and of May last year an mri scan should up degenerate discs, at the time I didn't report it as it hadn't changed how I managed daily life but over last few months things have deteriorated and in lot more pain. I've been back to doctor and there sending me for another scan as think things have got worse. I'm nervous about reporting this as I'm really not that good with these things. Do you think I should report or wait until review?

    Hi @terry123 sorry to hear things are getting worse for you. With regards to when you report, it's entirely up to you but if it were me, I'd wait until I'd had the scan as it might provide you with more backing evidence to help with your change of circumstances. Do you have any idea of the timescales?

    Unfortunately with the massive backlogs in the NHS there is no way of knowing how long it would take, the last mri scan took over a year to get set up and they ended up sending me private then.
