    I just sat in the garden with my spinning and thinking of your kind words, @yellowpineapple84 It was nice hearing the birds, taking in the garden smells, and get a bit of sunshine (without getting roasted). I am glad you are no feeling better with the weather being mild. How are you today? Reading or doing anything nice?

    Hi @Rmess welcome to the forum generally and to this book corner specifically - good for you for finding your reading mojo!

    As I'm nearing the end of The Sheep of Glennkill, I wonder if there are more books like these were animals are the main characters or the POV of a book. I also very much enjoyed Remarkably Bright Creatures about Marcellus the octopus. Any suggestions are welcome :)

    Cat-petting sounds wonderful @SmellyBin Yes, without libraries I would read much less as I couldn't afford it. I remember some books I read with animal protagonists. One was Firmin by Sam Savage. It's about a starving rat who starts chewing books and gains knowledge through them. It was a long time ago that I read it, but I remember it to be both beautiful and a bit sad. Another is Felidae by Akif Pirincci. This is a murder mystery with cats, but it gets quite dark and horroristic. Probably not your cup of tea. Holy Cow by David Duchovny was cute and hilarious. Animals escape from a farm and go on a globe-trotting adventure.

    I always wanted to read East Of Eden @Mary_Scope It's just such a thick volume, it's intimidating 😀 I read Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck and The Winter of Our Discontent by Steinbeck, and I liked them. How did your library visit go? Any gems you found?

    It's much better in cooler weather, isn't it @yellowpineapple84 Being able to open the curtains and get some light in definitely improves my mood. What's your next read?

    I’m still enjoying this steam punk series. Following these two investigators solving weird crimes in Victorian London. There are supernatural elements to it. They are fun stories. By George Mann.

    Do you take a book with you or do you simply appreciate your surroundings? Weird sounds good, I'll be keeping an eye on George Mann…

    I am reading Bella Osborne's Thursday Are For Oversharing. I feel easily intimidated by books, not because of the number of pages as @MissMarple mentions, but by the themes. Which is why I still haven't started To Kill A Mockingbird and why it took me a few weeks to read this current one. It is about grief and sadness, but thankfully not too heavy. The sense of community makes up for that, and the humor.
    Another book that is very much worthwhile is A Perfectly Reasonable Plan which is about the same themes, also very funny and feel-good. And yesterday I found The One Dollar Horse by Lauren St John in the free little library. Not sure what the feel of this book is yet, but it sounds promising and got a high rating on Goodreads.

    I was wondering if we could read East of Eden with a few of us? Would that make it more accessible to you @MissMarple? It is about 1 quid for the e-book.

    Lovely garden @yellowpineapple84 I'm currently reading a book about sleep, how to improve it. Not sure how useful it will be for someone with M.E. and POTS. Their main tips are: 1. getting up at the same time every day 2. move straight away when you wake up and 3. get sunlight as soon as you can

    I think if I jumped out of bed the moment I woke up, I would faint within seconds 😂

    I wouldn't dare start a book as long as East of Eden @SmellyBin But I like your idea of reading something together. Perhaps we could start a virtual book club? I'm terribly fussy about my reads so I'm not the best subject for it, but I'll cheer you guys on if you go for it. Or perhaps we could have a monthly theme and everyone chooses their own title to read?

    Hi Rachel, I love anything to do with crime. At present I'm reading a combination of serial killers.

    I get my books from The Book Bundle online, brand new at a low price & I'm sure you can sell them back which i won't I shall be keeping my books. My daughter got Misery & Silence of the lambs to read. I wonder will they be different from the movies.

    I love crime too @Suzy2stella. Especially when there are some twists. I read Silence of the Lambs many years ago and really enjoyed it.

    I am currently reading The Black Button by Sam Hambly, a new Indie author, she is disabled and started writing since

    The book follows a story about a little girl who finds a black button inside her grandma's button box, it's a cosy fantasy, I have a few chapters to go, it has been beautifully written, I love the nature elements and the unique hidden world, I have never read another like it. Really glad I gave it a chance, looking forward to reading the next one!

    All signed up now @MissMarple! I did have a look around and a few books caught my eye. Brutes by Dizz Tate and Sunburn by Chloe Michelle Howarth were a couple of books that looked interesting!

    I haven't borrowed any yet though as I really want to get through East of Eden😄 I started on Friday and barely made a dent but I am enjoying it. The chapters seem to be very small which helps break it up a bit, I feel like it's very rich in character and worldbuilding so far. I read Of Mice & Men in school for GCSE and I feel like that story and all of the analysis is engrained in my brain😂

    Thursdays Are For Oversharing sounds like an intriguing book @SmellyBin. I also like when there is bit of humour in books, especially when the themes are emotional and complex.

    That's a beautiful garden @yellowpineapple84, it looks so peaceful. I bet that's lovely to read in, do you go there often?

    Have you read any of Lisa Jewell @Suzy2stella? She has some good crime books, I recommend None Of This Is True by her!

    I am a huge book lover with probably over 150+ books and counting.

    I have an issue where I open a book and I struggle to concentrate on reading which is debilitating for me. Since Junior school, reading was a coping strategy. Where ever I went I always had a book in my pocket or bag.

    Now I have reverted back to reading magazines which are easy to pick up and read in short bursts.

    Suggestion for the book club:

    How about having a monthly vote to choose a theme from the ones suggested by members? Let's say, we've chosen the theme "heatwave" for July. Something to do with "heatwave" can be a beach romance, a non fiction on climate change etc. It's not that limiting, but those who want to read a specific title together would have a starting point on how to choose the book. And those who don't have access to that title or don't fancy it, could still read something relating to the theme. What do you guys think? Also, should we start a separate thread for the book club?

    A theme is such a good idea @MissMarple. I love that those who can't get the book can choose something based on the theme instead.

    A theme sounds great, but for me personally it would be nice to read the same book as someone else to discuss details, characters, or scenes. We'll see if that is a possibility. If someone comes up with a theme, we can start in a week for the month September? Perhaps for October we could do animals? I have no idea what is or can be special about next month…

    I completely understand wanting to read the same book @SmellyBin. If someone can't get hold of the same book they can choose a different one based on the theme 😊

    Ooh animals is a good theme for October. Any ideas for September anyone? Something with flowers in the title maybe?
