im scared for work after college

hello, i am 18 years old and i am studying level 3 business and i am currently going into year two of the course. having both cerebral palsy and psychosis, i am genuinely scared to leave college afterwards because ive heard that young people are struggling to find jobs. it makes me frightened because as a disabled person its more difficult. id rather be a NEET (not in employment, education or training) then have to worry about work. not because i am lazy but because i cant. i struggle to do the littest of tasks without being paranoid about everything and everyone. i struggle to distingish at times what is real and what is not. i struggle to move around my parent's house. i struggle to shower without help. everything about my conditions just sucks. however, i am not going to let that define me. i will keep on walking through the murky forest even if it hurts. because i know what my destiny is. i want to change the world. i want to write. i want to empower others, that just because you have something that doesnt mean it should hold you back. that is my philosophy. back to my main point though, i am still scared. though perhaps there is hope. thanks for reading.

    Well done on your studies, I hope year 2 goes really well for you. Have you been enjoying the course?

    I have a child of a similar age to you and the advice I always give them is that you don't have to have your whole future mapped out right now. Everyone's path looks different and that's okay.

    It can definitely be difficult to find suitable employment as a young person, in fact it's something people experience at all ages. That doesn't mean you won't one day find something that is suitable for you. Right now it sounds like you've got your hands pretty full with your studies and your writing. Have you parents spoken much about the future with you? And do you get much support from your college?

    You sounds really passionate about writing and empowering others. Writing is one of my passions too. What sort of things do you like to write?

    @toffuna101 Welcome to the community. I'm Sara, one of the cerebral palsy specialists here at Scope.

    I understand your fears as I also have cerebral palsy alongside epilepsy. Wondering about my future when I was your age played on my mind, because I needed lots of support from friends and family.

    As @Adrian_Scope has said try to take each day as it comes and focus on the here and now, enjoy your course and your writing. You've already achieved so much.

    Careers for disabled people can happen. I went from also studying a BTEC Business course to working at the local authority for a long time. I then met people through volunteering opportunities, who boosted my confidence and helped me understand I could make some changes in my career, but this happened in an organic way.

    If you had asked me 10 years ago would I have left the local council, I couldn't have imagined that would have happened.

    My career pathway has definitely not been linear, but that's okay. You'll be okay as well.
