TP and carers element uc

Hi everyone.
I migrated to UC over a year ago from ESA with transitional protection.
I would like to engage a carer and have in mind a family member who is unemployed and in receipt of UC.
How will this affect both mine and their UC claims?

Thanks in advance for any info provided.

It wouldn't effect your UC claim as yours will not change in any way.

If your relative has Transitional Protection on their UC award, then it would reduce by the same amount as Carers Element.

Your UC and Transitional Protection won't be touched at all—it won't reduce your payments.

Here’s the short version for both:

    Your claim: Completely unaffected.

Their claim: If they provide 35+ hours of care a week, they can add the Carer Element to their UC for extra money, and their job-search requirements will be dropped.

They just need to report "Care responsibilities" on their UC journal and link your claim details/NINO. Win-win for both of you!
