@Mary_Scope ooooh good idea about putting the rings on a chain, never thought of that, I spent a lot of time with my grandmother growing up, it would keep both my grandmother and mother close to my heart ❤️

My great grandmother's wedding ring, I think the idea was for it to be my wedding ring one day but things didn't work out like that.

I'm really glad that it's the paperwork that's putting you off global domination @kreacher 😆

I would love to see some pictures of your kites @JW77! I used to go and fly kites with my son fairly often but haven't been in a while. Are they stunt kites?

My denim Jacket it was originally my mothers she bought it in the 60's or 70's.

I also have a LBD that I got at 13 that still fits me -although I wear it as a tunic now over leggings or trousers, it is still going strong 33 years after buying and was bought from a charity shop so lord knows how old it actually is

Goes to show how long quality clothing can last @Jean Eveleigh!

I have some vintage 60s and 70s clothes. I got them online and in charity shops, so I don't know the history of them really. Sometimes I wish I could know who wore them and what they've seen, must have had some sights over the years!

I also have a wall decoration that my Grandma got from Sweden in the 50s. It has writing on it that loosely translates to "Woman of the day" or 'how's the wife?' - that type of thing. Then it has a little arrow to move around to point to what mood you're in. Angry, happy, cuddly, lazy, sour, sunny or cold. I have it permanently pointing to 'arg' (angry) just because I like the word 😂

Here is an interesting one that we all share, that came to my mind.

The oldest thing we have is our genes :-

My DNA comes back as :- English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish, Swedish and Danish.

Our autosomal DNA generally holds recognisable, measurable fragments from 5 to 7 generations back (about 150 to 200 years), while specialised DNA lines can track back for millennia

    Autosomal DNA (General Ancestry)

    • Generations: 5 to 7 generations (roughly 150 to 200 years).
    • Details: Standard commercial tests (like ethnicity estimates) look at your autosomal DNA.

The Limit: By the 8th to 10th generation, the number of potential ancestors (1,024+) far exceeds the physical pieces of DNA you actually inherited. Random genetic recombination means you stop receiving measurable DNA from certain specific ancestors, even though they remain legally and genealogically in your family tree.

    Lineage DNA (Deep History)

    • Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA): Passes down from mothers to all children and can trace maternal lines back hundreds of thousands of years.
    • Y-Chromosome DNA (Y-DNA): Passes down from fathers to sons and can trace paternal lines back thousands to hundreds of thousands of years.

The Limit: These do not show individual recent ancestors; instead, they point to ancient, deep-branching human lineage roots.

That's an interesting one @Rag_793. I've never thought about my genes as something I own before. Can you trace the Scandinavian DNA back to relatives you knew or is it in the more distant past?

I would say it is something in the very distant past, I believe it could be Viking 🤨

That's fun. I'm tempted to have done done myself and see what that turns up.

I've actually found something that I didn't realise I still had — a handmade cowboy fort from my grandad. It's about 9 square foot with room for literally hundreds of cowboys. It definitely predates anything else I own as he started putting it together in the 80s. I've got a lot of great memories playing (and falling asleep) inside that as a kid!
