Could my daughter have cerebral palsy?
My daughter she has had some things happening since birth.
Her one fist was late to open, she crawled bland rolled but didn’t use the one side of her body. She was dominate hand left early but has caught up a bit and using her right hand now. Low muscle tone and hypermobility, some developmental delays social emotional and motor skills including a delay with Oral motor skills. but not in speech and language and communication.
She has sensory issues and some ASD traits but doesn’t fit the criteria.
Multiple and severe allergies and just been diagnosed with what I’m told Is a rare neurological condition benign paroxysmal vertigo of childhood. She’s had absence and focal type seizures and being tested for epilepsy. She tip toes a lot but does also walk without being on tip toes and flaps her arms a lot too.
When she was crawling rolling etc I was worried she might have cerebral palsy as she didn’t use both sides. Not sure if this is a muscle tone issue now :-/ my boys are diagnosed ASD so we have been looking for signs of that which may have clouded our views of what’s really going on - or not. Know we know a bit More.
any of this sound familiar to anyone ?

Hi @LN2010
Thanks for getting in and welcome to the community.
I cannot give you a medical diagnosis but there is lots of very useful information on the Scope website that may be helpful to you. I will also include some links to pages that I think might be helpful.- Parent Guide: https://www.scope.org.uk/support/families/parents-carers

Hi @LN2010
Welcome to the community.
Some of the things that you describe could potentially be indicators of a child having a condition such as cerebral palsy (cp) but not necessarily so. I think the important point here is that you have concerns and you sound as if you need those concerns addressing by an appropriate person. It would not be appropriate for me to speculate if your daughter has cp but I would suggest that you express them to your daughter’s GP.
By definition cerebral palsy is a disorder of posture and/or movement that results from the immature brain either being damaged or failing to form correctly. It is a diverse condition that effects each individual in a way that is specific to them. It can display itself in a way that is similar to other developmental conditions. Diagnosis is normally made by a paediatric doctor after a period of observation and tests to rule out the possibility of other conditions. A brain scan can often assist with identifying areas of brain damage but not in every case. There is no stand-alone test for cerebral palsy, diagnosis is more of a process that looks at evidence from different sources (such as: medical history, general tests, scans and observation). The average age of diagnosis is 18 months but sometimes much later, especially if the person is only very mildly affected or has other health issues that are complicating matters.
Has your daughter already had an appointment with a Paediatrician?
Best Wishes

Thank you very much for the replies.
She has only seen the pediatrician once a few weeks ago after failing her 2yr development checks with the health visitor, but we were concerned she was showing autism traits similar to my 2 sons, we did talk about the motor skills things I mentioned but nothing more was said about it. -
I’ve made an appointment to see the GP as her walking is getting worse rather than better and she’s now complaining of leg pain. She can’t tiptoe anymore on one foot and the GP is concerned as it doesn’t sound like she’s just had a bump or pulled herself funny or anything like that.
I’m scared to say out loud I think she’s developing more signs of cerebral palsy. Not scared she may have it but for Dr’s to say no she’s fine it can’t be that as she isn’t ‘severe’. :-(
