Can I get registered as a disabled person?
Good Morning
I hope you’re all well and please let me know if this is the wrong forum for posting my question.
I am a male and
approaching 50 years of age. I was born
with a whole host of problems:
Cervical Myelocele
Meningo Myelocele
Right Convergent Strabismus
Deformity Of Right Foot
Spinal Deformity
Operation for Squint
Occipital Meningocele
Right Hemiparesis
Incoordination of
right Hand
I have live with all this since birth. However, because my parents had emigrated to England and had language problems, it was never considered that I should be registered as disabled.
I know a lot of you may think it's a bit too late in the day now, but could I get registered as a disabled person? Who can I contact to get more information on this?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

Why would you want to get registered as disabled? The only registers I know of, are the hearing and sight impaired registers. Just having a diagnosis of a hearing or sight impairment wouldn't be enough. You'd have to be able unable to read (or hear) a certain amount to register, which is done by a specialist.

Thanks for your reply.
I want to get registered so that I can tick the appropriate boxes when applying for jobs.

@geek84 when you apply for jobs they ask on the form, do you have a disability? You tick yes. Thats all you need to do. Thats what I do.

There is no Official register of disabled people
There are various Cards that you can apply for which give concessions and discounts

Ah, I see. If you're classed as disabled if you have a physical or mental impairment that has lasted for 12 months (the exception being terminal illness) and affects your ability to do day to day things, such as communicating, walking, etc.

Do you have a PIP award ?

Personally I wouldn't want to be and don't view myself as such either.
It's only a word I agree.
Application forms for anything not just work ask if you have any health health conditions.Do not follow me, I don't know where I am going. -
Thanks folks

Hello @geek84 Pleased to meet you. I was born with my disabilities. Never registered . Always just say on the forms are you registered? When I was applying for employment. Have just put a sheet of paper in. Added my disabilities.
Because it says any additional information. Tick the box. Said what the issues are. No problems
Hope that helps.
Take care

It doesn't work like that. There are certain criteria and just having a disability isn't one. I've got dual sense loss and can't get one.

For a blue badge you must score 8 points in the moving around activity. Points for planning will not give automatic entitlement

Good Morning Folks
I hope you're all well and many thanks for your responses.
However, can we kindly stick to the query I posted originally - whether or not I should get registered as a disabled person?
Thanks so much.
