Hello, my son was awarded PIP at tribunal (enhanced daily living and standard mobility) he is 19 and still a student, leaving college at the end of this month. He lives with me and his sister who is 15. Do I need to let the council know he has been awarded PIP? It was backdated to June 2017 as that's when his DLA stopped. I have sent the council an e mail but got no reply, the automated service doesn't have the option to ask a question. Thank You

    Hello cris01

Yes it is worth telling all the various benefit authorities that your son has just received PIP, and this was backdated from 2017. It is not only worth telling the Council therefore but also for example Tax Credits.

Depending on what benefits you receive extra money can sometimes be awarded to those who have dependent children in receipt of PIP.

Please post again if you need specific advice on specific benefits but remember that you must inform the relevant agencies within 1 month of any tribunal decision  that your son has received PIP in order to ensure you receive any backdated payments you may be entitled to.
