Hi I’m wondering  if anyone can help me on this my brother has serious mental health issues
he has psychosis depression borderline personality disorder to name a few
he had been on DLA for 22 years since he was 16 but he got a form which I filled in for him telling him he was changing to PIP and had to reapply he went to a medical assessment on 20th of October 2018 and we are currently waiting on a decision
his psychiatrist gave him supporting eveidence to saying in his opinion he was unstable and he was unfit to work on an official letter and gave him printed out leaflets of his medical condition
but the lady never took the leaflets she just took the letter and said she will send it with the report
I asked her if she was a metal health nurse and she said she wasn’t after that I felt she was just want us out their ASAP
so how could she understand what my brothers medical condition really is like
all she kept on saying to him through out the medical was so you have no physical disability then you can walk about
can anyone give me advice whether to phone up and see how his claim is getting on or just leave it and wait he keeps asking me daily about his claim

Hello @kojak7 and a warm welcome to the community. Sorry I could not get on line sooner tonight.
It seems that very few of these assessors have any kind of medical training and what you are describing is not all uncommon. It has caused a lot of people a lot of anxiety.
However, I am not properly qualified to guide you on this, so I am going to copy your post to our benefits specialists and someone should get back to you very soon.
You and your brother are not alone here, and we're here to do the best we can to help.
    Stay in touch.
    Warmest best wishes,
    @JennysDad

They do not need to be medically qualified as PIP is not about conditions it's all about how your condition affects your ability to carry out the descriptors
Sounds like another case of filling the form in before you have looked in to PIP and what it is all about  that's why so many misinformed people end up with no award

PIP isn't about being unfit for work and printed leaflets are not classed as evidence. All conditions affect people differently and he'll need evidence about how his conditions affect him not leaflets.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

It was all on a letter from his psychiatrist how his condition affects him the woman said she will use that as supporting evidence and he told them at the assesment
he was awarded DLA in 1998 for life but now it’s changed to PIP he had to apply again
I phoned up PIP this morning and was told his decision has not been made yet as there’s a back log
Thanks for getting back to me folks appreciate it ??

Ring for a copy of the assessment report to be sent. This will give some idea what the decision is likely to be as they mostly go with the recommendations in the report.
